Angry Automatic Spark Plug Ejection System

My L decided that the spark plug in #3 hole (3rd back, passenger side -- seemingly the most common, judging from everybody's posts) was either defective or worn out, and ejected it last night. but it gets better as you go back in time slightly...

Bought my bolt 2 days ago...
Signed warranty paperwork yesterday around 1330...
Ejected spark plug last night around 2130...

My new truck was found on road dead, built Ford tough.

We'll see what Ford ESP says, because when I called roadside assistance, they refused to help me -- at all -- beause my paperwork wasn't in the system.

You know what the engine sounds like just after the plug decides to jet? I'll give you a hint...

I changed the plugs in my 01'L today (what a job)

Anyway, I had been hearing what I thought was a slight exhaust leak, and also when I shut the engine off I would hear a PFFFFTTT noise or air running out. I thought this was a medium sized vacuum leak but could never find it. Well turns out my #3 plug wasn't even tight and was causing the "vac" leak and the exhaust leak I am pretty sure. (I have to accelerate near a guard rail to hear what I thought was the exhaust leak, but I'm pretty sure that it was the plug leaking)

Anyway, Damn. Now what. I guess I will wait around for #3 to just blow out the rest of the way. I may retorque it in another 10K miles just to see.

Blown

Blew out my #3 on passenger side the other day after 4 months of fun driving
Bought Steel Insert Kit and filled cyclinder with grease to the top then used provided threader and tapped hole. I would make 1/2 revoulution on the treader than take out and clean then regrease till i had the hole tapped. Afterwards i took a mirror on a stick and inspected and didnt find one filing in the whole. shorted through the started and blew all the grease out the hole(make sure its on the up stroke) then started truck with starkplug out and let run for a few min. Next i cleaned the hole out with carburator cleaner good and let dry. Next i took insert and put copper coat on the plug and put the insert on the plug. Then i threaded up the insert in the new hole i tapped till it was tight then torqued it. Oh ya dont forget to applie good locktight on the insert. Let set for about 3 days and screwed plug out of the hole and took supplied hammering tool and hit the insert 2 times to implant locking studs on the insert. But plug back in and went to driving.

My 99 5.4 W/ 95000 blew the plug on #2 cyl. on passenger side . I thought I heard a ticking sound at the traffic light while I was waiting for it to turn green. Light turned so I went and a I heard a loud pop and the truck had no power and ticked very loudly. The coil pack blew off and hit the fuel rail and left a nice size gouge it the top of the coil pack. Had it towed to friend's shop to be fixed and replace the rest of the plugs. Pick it up today and it runs good again.....but for how long?

After blowing out one of my plugs, I replaced both heads with the new style 8 thread heads. Now the motor has a serious problem with detonation. Has anyone else experianced this after the new style were installed.

Well add me to the list. I decided to take the L to work today. I didn't even make it out of my subdivision. I was going maybe 25mpr when I heard a pop and then the motor started to stutter. I immediately shut it down and coasted to a side st. I knew what it was before I even looked. I opened the hood and sure enough. #2 coil pack was just sitting loosely on the manifold. It is currently sitting at the ford dealership. The good news is I have the ESP.

A question for those with blown plugs. Did any dealer offer to repair the threads with a timesert ? It's specifically made for this problem.
The big attraction is the insert can be installed into the head while still ON the engine! Try a search on the threads for timesert.
