Blown Sparkplug List
3 blown sparkplugs
Our 2002 Explorer that has blown out 3 diff. spark plugs in 2 1/2 mos. We replaced each one and the 3rd time we took it to the dealer. Ford told us that since he didnt use Ford brand spark plugs our extended warranty was voided. We called the 1800# & they said that they could not override the insp. choice. We dont know what to do. Ill be calling our local channel 4 news to launch an investigation against Ford. I have already filed complaints with the BBB, NHTSA. & are also going to legal.

If you had already replaced the plugs prior to the issue, the dealer may argue that you stripped the threads. Good luck
last night returning home from our 7 day trip to st. louis, we blew #7 (3rd one back, passenger side) i could not put another plug in. i think the head is toast. has anyone had the dealer repair this free even after mods, i was under NO boost at the time. infact, i haven't raced this since last september. i shouldn't have to check plugs every 6 months.
I blew the same plug not too long ago as well. Luckily the hole was able to be repaired with a Timesert. So far so good.
I certainly would look into Timeserts as an option. They even make a kit specifically for the 5.4 Triton...

Its a problem thats not just a ford issue. I have been repairing heads (many makes and designs) since the 70's.
The best way to avoid this is to check your plugs. Loose plugs allow cylinder heat to seap in to the threads and fatigue the aluminum. then the contsant hammering of the cylinder pressure does the rest.
But if the dreaded plug spit happens to you dont stress its an easy fix.

Yes, There is a easy fix, but don't go to ford or they will end up selling you a new head. You also should be careful choosing a garage because some of them will put in a heili coil which is a unreliable repair. The only inexspensive and reliable fix is a timeinsert. I know this because I installed one in all 8 cylinders, it has been about a year and it is running great. I have alot more confidence in the motor since I did it myself and took my time. here is the link

Welcome me to the club. I blew the second one from the front passenger side on the way to work last night. Going around a corner slow speed and pop, thought I had a flat at first. I have been hearing a ticking sound from the passenger side for about a month but didn't think anything about because the truck was running fine. I had just installed my new xcal2 and 24# injectors last week. My truck has about 67000 miles. It'll be off to the shop come Monday. This really sucks.
