I went to change my plufgs today and the threads on the right front came out with the plugs.

I'm guessing the plug had some damage to remove the threads? What type of inserts did you have in there?

Thumbs down

As some have read in a previous post I just popped #3 on the passenger side.

I have the "normal mods"(see sig), and the plug blew rolling from a stop. Not into the boost at all. Popped the coil pack, broke the mount for it, leaving the bolt still in the head.

Don't know what the deal is yet, as the tech still hasn't touched it... but he's looked the other way before just hate being without my baby for more than a few days

Popped a plug (#3) last night @ 65 mph steady cruise with the wife and a loaded up truck! Kayak, fishing gear pouring out the back.
Had just come back from a day fishing for striped bass, at which we both got skunked I might add .
I had to drive the truck for about 5 miles to get to a safe place to pull over, as the road we were on is a very busy cut through to 2 major freeways (2 lane) loaded with big-rigs.

NO MODS - 2000 virgin L (unless you call a K&N a mod)

are most people getting this fixed under warranty seeing how common of a problem it is with the Lightnings before 2003?

Count me in, blew the number 3 passenger side the other day just crusing along the street. How about sending this list to Ford SVT members, and see just what they have to say about that. Maybe you can start a Recall notice, and get theses 99-02 heads replaced with the newer 03 thicker heads

Did some research around the blown plug issue and this is what I have come up with. I don't recall seeing any L's on these sights but there are definitely some unhappy folks here:

http://www.cartrackers.com/Forums/li...Lemon/287.html

http://forums.vmag.com/fvmFSD0501/messages/269.html

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/autom...ord_spark.html

Gotta love the quote by Josh of Fargo ND (7/24/03):
You don't have to change the plugs; they eject themselves automatically.

Also searched the NHTSA website. I looked at Expediton, F150 and F250 complaints for blown plugs. Years searched were 1998 - 2003. I have listed the complaint ID numbers by year and model. Here is what I found:

1998 Expedition

2002 F250

2003 Expedition

2003 F150

2002 F250

What was interesting was the summary section. I believe one complaint stated that the dealer replaced the head and another stated they were partially reimbursed. It appears that all of the consumers with the exception of two had to bare the cost for repair of their vehicles...but that's speculation on my part not fact.

Also some of the complaints were "While under warranty my F150 blew the #2 sparkplug and cylinder head at 25,000 miles. It happened again with the same cylinder head 60,000 miles later."

After reading the articles above as well as the complaints, IMHO the theory that modding is causing plugs to eject just doesn't hold water.

I hope all of you that have experienced this problem band together and get some JUSTICE!!!

Good Luck!

I hate to bring this up again.......

But what the hell. I have read so many people just on this site that have blowns plugs. I only see 2 *'s. (Lightnings) One for 1999. (which is mine) Are people blowing plugs and not doing this complaint to the NHTSA?!?!?!

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/

File your complaints!!!!! It doesnt take but a couple of minutes.
