I'm not trying to criticize anybody's choice in mods or customizing because I know that everybody has different taste. But I'm just curious as to with the ENORMOUS wealth of aftermarket wheels on the market in all shapes and sizes, why does everybody here seem to be hooked on chroming or 20 inching their factory wheels. No doubt the factory 99-00 wheels look great, and believe it or not my 01 wheels are starting to grow on me. I actually had a custom set of 20's on order several weeks before my truck was even scheduled to arrive, but I cancelled thinking I might wait and see if I really wanted to blow that $2000-$4000 dollars (depending on tire choice). I am still contemplating, but I thought I'd put up some links to some of my favorite wheel places. anybody wants to put up some pics of their favorites, great. later.
sincerely,
chris haynie

well, that certainly didn't work out like I'd planned. I guess I have to upload all of my favorite wheel pics to freepages or photopoint or similar huh? I was just trying to link to the site. oh well, anyway, post your favorite wheels anyway if you'd like.
NEVERMIND, I fixed it...sortof like I wanted it anyway.

I am currently researching several options for aftermarket wheels. My reason for switching is probably different from most. I am looking for a lighter weight stronger performance wheel. I love the look of the 20's but the just add weight and limit your choice of performance tires. I am looking at BBS, Fiske, and HRE. All have 2 or 3 piece wheels that will shave unsprung weight. For me I like to spend my dough for "GO" rather than "Show".

I just don't think anything else would look right on this truck. there's allot of guys on here that have different rims on there trucks that are 20's and I don't like the looks of them. Since they day I had this truck, I always said somebody should make 20 inch rims that are just like the Lightning wheels and now that I have them, Its great. I like them better then anything else out there. they might not look right on other trucks, but on the L's there perfect. Also, billet is a pain in the *** for people who drive there trucks allot. hard to keep clean, the bend and scratch easy. and you need to polish them all the time, or they get dull and nasty. to much work for me at this point. I got spark plugs to change!

Cost, fitment and visuals. Alot of wheels wouldn't look right. Some of the wheels cone only in 9" width and I don't want to lose width for a number of reasons.
Trying to figure out how to get a bigger tire with proper wheel backspacing is tricky if you want to avoid clearance problems.
The aftermarket wheels I would want to achieve the performance I am seeking would run 4000.00 w/o tires!
There is also something "hot rodish" about chroming/widening the stock stuff.
