Hey bolt, I was wondering if you can explain this more ... Whats an eligible ford partner? ...I know this probably sounds kinda dumb but I'm curious.

I joined a couple days ago and got my EAA member #, then went on the site and filled out the info for the Ford X plan.

Got my PIN for X plan!

Here is a certificate they tell you to print out. Of course, I have changed the name and the PIN.

For those wondering about, "Must show proof of ID". That means that when you buy the car you have to bring in your PIN and your EAA member card.

All you need when you go to a dealership is the pin number and your soc. number. With those two items the dealership can verify your approval.

Question

Jim,

I have joined and will pass along your name. Do you know of any dealers in CA that will sell on the x plan?

Thanks
Jim

Hey guys, DO ME A BIG FAVOR
If you join EAA to get the X-Plan, please tell them that I (Jim Shaw) sent you. I have joined a number of new members and the person that sends in the most members gets to do something with Ford and I would like to be the one.

Thanks

Has anyone tried getting Ford's "X" plan by way of joining EAA which is an aviation club that has a partnership with Ford?? It costs $40 to join the club but you get the pin number needed to get an "X" price at a dealership. I know a dealership does not have to honor the plan but most will if you go through the Internet or fleet department. But the odds of getting the plan on a Lightning is almost "0." It is interesting info. if your are considering any other product that Ford produces like: Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, Volvo and Land Rover, and Jaguar S-Type.

Sorry, I don't. I think it would be impossible to find a Calif. dealership that would. They would lose between $3,000-$8,000 to sell an L that way. I am possibly one of cheaper dealerships and I deliver them to board members for $500 under MSRP.

By the way, please e-mail me your name so that tell EAA.

I hope the X-Plan will work for you. There are ways to make it work but you would have to have a dealership out of state drop ship an L into Calif.

My sister-in-law is a HR supervising manager at Ford's world HQ, and she told me that no dealer has to accept any of the plans.

Having said that, I'll tel you what my dealer told me. In car sales, there is no tomorrow. If a dealer can sell a car to you that day, then most likely, he will do it. Money he could have made by selling the car MSRP is just that, money he could have made, completely speculative. Of course, there are circumstances where a dealer may take the risk of losing an immediate sale to get some extra money later, but it's a risk, subject to usual risk/reward analysis. If he has some buyers beating down the doors to get at the lone remaining L on the parking lot, risk would be small. If the L sits on the parking lot for a month or two, however... The risk/reward picture changes.

I guess what I'm getting at is buying a car with any of the plans is pretty much same as buying one without the plans. It still pays to do the research, and still pays to be patient.

It took me about 3 weeks of looking around, researching, and haggling to get my 2001 F150 Harley Davidson (with all the options except for sliding rear window) with A Plan. To say that I enjoyed a substantial saving would be an understatement.

Early 90's Ford Probe -- mods: stereo stolen to reduce total weight. Speed gain negligible, unfortunately.
Late 80's Honda Spree scooter -- mods: plastic milk crate tied to the back to carry one and a half bags of grocery. Custom-made cafeteria tray-like hard plastic tonneau cover to keep the grocery bags dry in rain.
'89 Honda CBR600F1 -- mods: Newtonian Physics mod, courtesy of 30 mph collision with a VW Rabbit. Suitably chagrined.
'92 Toyota 4Runner -- mods: Rugged Exterior Package, of mud and occasional dings and dents. Free of charge.
'95 Mustang GT Conv. -- mods: hey, no joking around this one. This was my baby.
'99 Lexus RX300 -- mods: Good looking girlfriend mod. Costs continues to add up. Honk and throw money.
'01 F150 Harley. mods: Beautiful gf mod climbed off Lexus and climbed on F150. Darn! (j/k, honey ) Dealer mod: an ugly dealer plate holder in front. Gotta... get it... OFF!
