Age Of Lightning Owners
Just curious... What age group of guys are buy our trucks? I'm 36 and have wanted one since 94 when I was in the market for my wifes Explorer. In 95 I was very disappointed they discontinued building our wonderful baby's. Then just about the time I was getting ready to buy a new truck in 98. I found out they had plans on starting up again. So I painfully waited till the 1st of the yr. to order one.
IT WAS A LONG WAIT!!!!!!
From 1/98 till 6/21/99, I bugged my salesman to death from 1/99.

I am 47 and feel like 17 everytime i drive it. My first drag race in 20 years the other night knocked of undefeated f100 with Summit racing engine. The guy that built the engine told a friend of mine after the race, that he would have bet 2000 dollars on the f100. The owner of the truck said later that it should be against the law for a factory pickup to run that good. Love the feeling

40 yesterday and also gone to the track for the first time in 22 years. It felt great and I'm afraid my son is now hooked too!
There seems to be a trend here, a bunch of "older" (40 going on 18 myself, {grin}) guys with a penchant for go-fast and the bucks to afford the goodies to make it.

Trending Topics
This should be an interesting topic. I wonder if it will turn out to mirror pre PC polls I used to read in the late '60s about the buyers of muscle cars. About 20% were in their twenties and spent every dollar they made to make payments and insurance and 80% were guys and gals from 40 and up who could more easily afford both.
In my case, by US standards, I am 59.5, however, I was born in Beijing (formerly Peking) China, where one's age is calculated from the time of conception or an extra 9 months.
So, I am either 59.5 (like that .5) or 60 depending on your view.
My Lightning is my toy and to a degree a statement. It ain't real practical for what I do, which is to drive 24 miles a day round trip to my store on surface roads. I also haul stuff, and son-in-law is getting pissed that I keep telling him to use the company Ranger to take care of those duties.
As I have said on other postings, I made up my mind that I wanted the worlds fastest pickup ever since I heard of the current Lightning. I can finally afford it, and I was going to have it.
Now I do have it and it replaces Viagra for me. Like someone else said up the thread a ways, he is going to the strip for the first time in "x" years. I lived on the strips in SoCal from 1955 to around 1967. Almost every weekend. I said I wasn't ever going back, but I am really tempted to do the 160 mile round trip to the nearest 1/4 mile facility to do it "one more time".
I really hope this topic gets the response I think it deserves, as there is a real marketing story for FMC if they pay attention. A lot of us have asked for a higher level of equipment, a SuperCab version and other similar items that would fit the higher end of the age profile. The fellows in their 20s and 30s may not like or need thes items considered, but if they were available, I think a lot more Lightnings would be sold. BTW, the more or less mandatory inclusion of the towing package is an indication to me that their marketing folk need to take a week off and visit some performance venues and see how many of the Camaros/Birds/and other vehicles we are assaulting have trailer hitches.
Got to go: Wonder if anyone out there will top 59.5 or 60. May not win a lot of races, but I might win a prize for most grizzly old man.

PS: Added two more decals to the windows today including one which says "He who dies with the most toys wins". Probably cost me a tenth in ET for the extra weight.

I'm 43, when i started driving, vehicles like hemi-cudas, superbirds, gtx, roadrunners, chevelle ls-6, 6packs, 8 packs, xke's,428/429 cobra jets, were being wagged in my face, i was making 1.60hr as a bag boy, it's "pay back time"

Half a century (going on puberty). I bought a 396/375HP Nova in 1970 and had to decide between another tank of Sunoco 260 or toilet paper more than once (Sears catalogs where real thick back then!). I'm not sure of the name of the sickness when you can't wait to get up in the morning to turn a 5 mile drive to work into 20. Chuck
I'm 53. Sold my Syclone (which I owned for 6 years) when I bought the Lightning, so it's starting to become obvious to my neighbors that I like fast trucks. My other vehicle is a '90 SHO which I bought new and can't bring myself to sell. Also ride a '94 Harley FXLR Low Rider Custom and love it.

Sounds like the old folks home here! I think the ol Lightning is our mechanical viagra! Love you guys! I'll be 39 in next year.. I wanted a Lightning back when they first stormed the truck scene. Due to finacial reasons (no money)it wasnt to be. Some things do get (much) better with age! My 99 and myself have definetly bonded! Everybody here - When did you last own a vehicle like this that generated so much interest? Bill,(a day late) congradulations on your delayed honeymoon! Im glad you found you a good one! Everyone have a great weekend!
