Age Of Lightning Owners
Hey PFA:
Two great minds of a single thought.
I have my White Lightning and Pat has a Black 98 Continental.
Both leased for 36 months, paid $2,500 down on each and payments are both right at $550 per month.
We lease through our business, the main reason for that alternative, but also because you have the choice to buy the vehicle if you like it or dump it if you don't or something else better comes along.

i join the crowd of those who are older and still do not know any better....41 and still feel like a teenager every time i'm in the truck with my honey....just having the ability to scare the daylights out of any unwary driver is always fun and putting youngsters who know less than us in their place when they think that the truck is all
show...won't they ever learn....

IMHO, the lightning is the best truck out there. A hell of a lot of fun. The Nissan has to go to make way for the 99.
Now if only the dealer(Service side) had a clue......
I guess you can't win them all....

I am 31 and will never buy another CHEV!!!! I drove a new Silverado and was shocked as to how slow and clunky it was. I found a refreshing change when I went to the Ford dealership to purchase my Lightning. People actually greeted me and took the time to show me the truck. They also kept in constant contact with me re: financing approval, location of the one I wanted, etc. (see my intro post for details!)
All in all, a nice experience even though an initial mistake was made, I was well compensated for it!

Lightning Bob,
Guess my first post didn't go, mea culpa. No, I'm from SoCal, not the Midwest. Now having owned the Lightning for a whole week, I'm just starting to come back to earth. Great truck, real exciting, loves high test. 13.22 first tank. Guess I have to get the weight off my right foot.

99 White Lightning, nothin new but the payments.

Hey Whitelighting,
If your first tank was in the 13's, be very happy. I can't seem to break out of the 12's unless I do a LOT of highway driving and then it only does 14+.
Of course, I don't care.

My 1st tank disappeared in 24 hrs and only yielded 9.2 mpg, since I have gotten a best of 12.4 (only once). I get around 10.2-11.6 in most cases, dipping down into the 9's at times. My exhaust tips are really black and I feel I'm running on the rich side....anyone seeing this or have any comments on the rich burning premium fuel drinking beast.

SVT54SC: I'm getting 12.8/13.3 MPG around the city (with a FEW WOT's thrown in) and 17 MPG prox. on the open road. My tips are black too (haven't seen any that are real clean once driven). My truck is going in this week and I'll ask for some feedback. I'm not too worried because my MPG seems to be around the norms that have been posted. Good luck!

The inside of my tail pipes stay a nice grey to "light" black color. I think you're right about yours running a little rich.
You know, I wonder if there is any correlation between exhaust pipe color and quarter-mile times? Maybe we should take a survey. Would be fun even if it didn't prove anything.

Hey WhiteLightning And SVT54SC
Have never checked my mileage with about 6000 miles on the clock. I guess I don't want to know how bad it is, cause it's so much fun to put your right foot in it.
SVT54SC, my exhaust tips soot up considerably as well, and I wonder if I'mm ruunning too rich. But, I guess thats better than running lean.
Mike, if your out there, maybe you can share the air/fuel ratio's found on the trucks SuperChips used to develop their program. As a side note, my tips blacken(ed) quickly both before and after installation of my chip.
Regards to all,
Lightning Bob

My tips are staying clean on the outside with a light grey color inside. I suspect that I may be runnning a little lean w/the SuperChip because I'm getting some pinging at the top of second gear at WOT (around 5k on the tach). I'm going to call Mike Troyer and see if he can shed some light on this issue and get back w/more info later. Maybe the fuel/air ratio needs to be fine tuned according to environment, fuel, etc. Any ideas shared would be greatly appreciated.
TIA,

I forgot to mention that along with the REALLY BLACK exhaust tips, I think I have some plug fouling.... it has a different sound than when I 1st got it. I just rolled over 3000 miles this weekend, and I'm going to set up a doctors appointment for it seeing that.
1) The fronted POPS and pulls to the right
2) I'm concerned about this rich burn and plug fouling.
3) I want them to check into the surging I have when I try to pass at 90-100mph.(kicks up and down several times before it steady's out)
Other than that all is well and I'm very pleased with my toy.
