My thoughts won't be complete until Sunday. The reason is that I was told the plugs need to have some miles on them before that settle down and perform properly. So, I'm off to Pismo Beach, CA which should put about 450 miles on the plugs. Then I'll let you know.

BUT for now. (1) The L idles a lot smoother. (2) Now this is one thing that I don’t really understand and I pray someone out there can explain to me. A while back I posted a long note regarding a flutter/rattle that I have had from the beginning and so far NO ONE and I mean NO ONE has been able to explain why or what it is. A lot of guesses but no answers. Here is the thread that I started with a lot of discussion regarding that rattle: https://www.f150online.com/f150board...ML/003180.html
Now here is the odd thing. It is gone. I cannot believe it. That rattle that I have been hearing is gone. Trust me I will be listening for it all weekend but for now, this is the first time I do not hear it at 3000+ RPM's.
(3) Now for the negative part SO FAR. There seems to be a little miss when cruising. The owner knows about it and told me that there is a lot of porcelain on the plugs and in a short time it will burn off and it will run smooth.

The third part is what interests/concerns me and I will get back to you after this weekend.

If the plugs smooths out, it will be the best $$$ that I have spent on the L because if the rattle is gone (and it is for now), it takes away a great concern/worry that I have had ever since I purchased the L.

I truly hope one of you engine experts can explain to me why changing plugs will eliminate that rattle noise (described in the above thread) that I have had from day one??????????

ford sales,on my invoice it say s a ford lightning5.4 v8 using autolite agsf12e.i told them[maury]this number but it is scratched out with ink pen,and they have hr9dcy,whatever that is.this maury was to take care of this plug for my truck personally, but invoice says rep, mel.well mel ******d up.this is why they gave me 8s and are recommending 6s,7s to you. i do not have to change the plugs back to tell you that they ARE the cause of check engine light.plus the truck is slower with these plugs, and less responsive.what plug did you end up with?

Cool

the jury is still out on the tourqemasters as i found a lose connection on the mass air sensor, and the light is off.so i will wait until test n tune mid week to get a better feel for performance at the track, before i go trashing these plugs.

Cool

ibfast,

Sorry to hear about the Torquemasters. When I talked to Maury it sounded like a great idea for plugs but I couldn't justify spending that much on plugs. I've been real happy with my Splitfires so I quess they are the right plug for me. I'm just waiting on my R9 to come in and really motivate this thing.

FORDSALES,
What was your verdict on these plugs after your trip?

As I have mentioned above, there were two items that I like about the plugs and the third I was doing a 450 mile test.

My L miss-fired for 450 miles. Miss-fired at all RPM's and in all gears. I went to WOT once to test only to hear a couple back fires. I was extremely disappointed.

I got up early today, called and searched everywhere for NGK TR-6, found them, paid a pro/a few dollars to take out the TM and install the NGK.

IMPORTANT--please read before drawning a conclusion
While they were being installed, the pro found one of the coils had not been tighten properly by the TM mechanic which more than likely caused all the miss-fire.

TM is waiting for me to drive back up and have them re-install and check-out everything but I am tired of driving to LA and sitting around for hours while they do testing. So, I'm not going back up.

Therefore, I'll not know for sure how the TM plugs really work.

Sorry, after 450 crappy miles, I just want it to run good again. The NGKs run nice.

So, I'm afraid I can not give you a good or bad report.

The NGK's also fulfilled the first two items I noted about the TM's.

ibfast,

Are you up to finishing the test that I mention on the nloc board. If not I understand. It would be be another pain to change plugs again but it would be a good all around test. Just a thought.

BTW, your the one that mentioned how accurate your assometer was. LOL

Jim,
What NGK's did you put in? After all the discussions I assume they weren't the platinum tipped ones.
