First new car - 1970 Pinto hatchback with 2000cc and 4 speed. $2200 out the door and, yes, I financed it. Had to scratch hard, even with the price of gas and beer back then, to make payments on time. One late payment and that was due to 'needing' a set of Positraction rear tires so I could run at Detroit Dragway. Ahhh, the sound of Pintos, Capris and Vegas, with headers and bolt-on mufflers, on Telegraph every Friday & Saturday night. Learned real quick how to get out of the way of Mopars, Chevelles, Nova SS's, and the occasional quick Mustang.

Wow. 4 years old. Good stuff.
The thing that caught my eye was the "spiderman" bikes. Anybody with one in good condition sitting in a barn somewhere would not believe the market out there in the beach communities. Old school bikes, chopper bikes, cruisers (a Schwinn would kick major a$$) are all the rage. Fix it up, sell it on Ebay for a grand.

Thanks Clonetek

Did bring back some good memories when we were still pretty new into the Lightnings, new to the board and had not yet gotten into politics. Member, member the world before 09/11/01.

For grins, I looked up the current status or non status of a dozen or so of the posters on that thread that I regularly traded messages with.

Still on the board:
sixpipes
WhitelightninSVTgirl (CA)
KGM
Shadowbolt
Twisted99 (now twisted 02 I think
Nathan
flatsman
wildchild

Gone but not forgotten and still remembered fondly:
Wyldman
BABolt
Pacecar18
redlite
2kbolt
isa4325
burnout101
2000silverbullitonorder

I have missed some, just went to page 6 and only looked up ones I knew fairly well (If I missed you don't be angry)

Yes, my friends it was a different time back then, just 4 short years ago.

As for me, my current ride is still the 02 Blackwood which is chipped/filtered/exhausted (no pun intended) and runs strong as a bull.

Took it in for the 20K service this week and impressed (scared) the hell out of the dealer's driver type when he rode with me to my store and then took the truck back to the dealership. Those twin OHC engines really scream when they are allowed to breath and are chipped. I have 2 dealership salesmen and one tech that want to buy the truck if I sell it when it comes off lease next May.

BTW, since this thread started we have had not one but two Spiderman movies come out which I think came up somewhere in this whole deal.

Well, after 4 years, maybe we can come up with some more cool member, member, member stuff.

Bill, I still remember this one. I remember the first April Fools Day we were all new to the board and almost had a heart attack when Steve "shut it down" The best part about it was being part of something new. Even though they were Gen 2s they were still new out there...we were all learning together and setting trends and the tuners were really innovating. It's still a good time, but it will never be the same. Kinda sad when you really think about it, especially since we've lost some of our members. Either way I'm glad to be associated with the good people here.

And hi Brooks

Hey CA:

Not to dwell too much on the past but let's go to the future.

Pat and I will be going to the HobbyTown USA "Getaway" at some sort of Dude Ranch in the Phoenix area next March.

At this time, I will also celebrate my 65th birthday during this "official meeting/getaway". If I give you,and other f150onliners enough lead time, perhaps we can have a really fun night to celebrate my official reaching of the official retirement age.

Of course, given the current state of affairs as regards our economy, I will not retire but it is sure as hell a good excuse for a heck of a party.

Stay in touch with me on this and we can do member, member, member all night long and you can learn a lot of stuff from us older members.

Bill

I have never been too visible here but was monitoring this site well before my November 2000 registration date. Since I visit my folks at some point in March of every year (they live in Sun City, AZ or "God's Waiting Room" as they jokingly term it), I would be very interested in planning my annual trip to meet up with some of the F-150online "Old Timers" if such a get together was to happen in the Phoenix area next year.

Bill,

Good to see you, sure sounds great. We will keep in touch and I'll help things fall in to order for the party on this end if you like. There are a few Ls in the valley and on the outlying areas. I'll get ahold of the few that I have contact info for and in the meantime we will continue to talk it up here and on the other boards if you like. Was the ranch your idea? Sounds like a blast. Wish Wes was still around, he sure loved stuff like this, maybe his son can come in his place. He should have some good " 'members" Keep me posted on what I can do.

BlueOval,

My Mom and Dad are right at 107th Ave and Olive in Peoria, your folks and my folks probably sit behind golf cart traffic on public roads together

I can recall how popular "fender skirts"and "white walls" were. And the sharpest cars around were the 49-51 Fords and Mercurys, chopped and channeled and louvered. And when the 55 Chevy(265 ci) and Pontiacs(287ci) first came out - and the first "floor shifts". And the 54 Olds with the 4 speed hydramatic was a pretty hot machine.

I'm happy if I can wake up in the morning and remember my name.................but then when I was in high school, the dream graduation gift was a 1968 Camaro SS......brand new, not a "classic" as my grandson would say.
