If OBD is trying to get things stirred up on the Lightning board, he will fail miserably.
---------------------------------------------
I haven't started anything. Remember, I was not the one who started the potentially inflammatory comments. I'm totally ok with Nathan's comments that had a little bit of bravado in them; the same with Wyldmans. I feel my comments were along the same vein and argueably less provacative. Try to put your bias aside and see it for what it is.
---------------------------------------------
"I just don't understand why OBD feels like Lightning owners have to stand still while other truck owners are within the rules in spending "
---------------------------------------------
Not only do I accept you modifying your truck,I encourage it! You think I like running stock trucks and putting 15 lenghts on them? Some people may, but it bores me. I'm usually relegated to running fast 5.0s and GNs. Talk about being the underdog. Nothing gets me pumped more than a good door to door race. I actively seek them out.
That's one of the reasons I hope Jeff(FMOS) gets his truck done in time for cyberbrawl.
Peace

FYI:
Chucks mods:
Mopar magnum 360 crate shortblock(10.5 to 1)
M1 single plane intake(comes predrilled for fuel inj; for the most part a bolt on affair)
Cam: aprox. 220/225 dur @50 with 530 lift(RRs)
Heads: stock magnums-ported with larger valves.
Headers with single 3" exhaust,pulleys,bored t-body,electric fans
TRANNY: stock save for shift kit and 3500 stall with lock up retained
Caltracs
This combo dynoed 345 RHP and 420 TQ
My combo is essentially the same except I built my bottom end up to run more gas. Eagle rods, Ross pistons, studded, etc and with good machine work.

ODB -

If my bias is showing, I apologize. I'm usually better at hiding it. Your points are well made. Thanks.

Tom, your running close to 500rwhp w/your 150shot on a "built" bottom end, with some of the best products available, and you claimed "there is not much available for my truck". i have a library of mopar material, and that 360 is older than i am. would you please explain how you are at a disadvantage, going up against a "totally" modded 99 lightning.

Mr B,
The current magnum 360 is not the same motor as the LA 360 to which you are thinking of. Why they changed I'll never know. The bore and stroke is the same as well as the rods and pistons. After that, things really start to diverge. The heads are not interchangeable. The oiling system is different. Magnums push oil up through the push rods, thus most of the valvetrain is different. The block is also a thinner casting. It is a hydraulic roller, but the lifters are so obscenely heavy that the rpm must be limited.
To date, nobody makes an aftermarket head, long tube header or throttle body. All those great "W" heads and the new Edlebrock won't fit without costly modifications. The stockers do flow fairly well though. Snce the magnum head is a small chambered head, all the old 360 aftermarket pistons were designed for the larger cc heads. So unless you want to run a lot of comp. your limited there as well.
The good news is that the 318 and 360 dimensionally are the same. So the cost of adding a 360 is not that much more save for a computer and adding a weight kit to the TQ converter.
My comparison was actually meant for the older Lightnings where you can get 10 different intakes and heads along with stroker kits, etc. I wish I had half their inventory.

One Bad Dakota,
Off the subject but, I see you are from minneapolis. Do you go to any drag strips around here? I am new to this and would really like to see what my red L will do in the 1/4 mile. You can Email me being it is off the subject being debated here. thanks

Cool

Let's see if I understand.

Take 1 Lightning:
add nitrous
reprogram chip
change filters
add traction bars
add slicks

OR

Take 1 Dakota:
remove motor
throw away bottom end and replace with high performance aftermarket short block.
flow the heads
add bigger valves
replace cam
replace intake
modify the throttle body
change all the pulleys
modify the exhaust
modify the computer
add nitrous (I think but not sure)
modify the trans
throw away any and all warranties.

Yep, sounds like a fair fight to me

Talking

OBD,

Checkout www.fastdodge.com... Magnum Performance. Owners name is Jules... Great guy... Lots of available performance mods for the MAGNUM 360 and 318. That's all he sells and builds. Throttle bodies? He has about 10 to choose from... $250 to $2500...
Intakes, lifters, blowers, you name it!

Lightning Folks... I apologize for the off Lightning topic... I just want to step up the competition... Seems OBD isn't looking hard enough for an easy buildup. Plus the "well.. you got a blower" is getting old...

Mark,
I ran a 11.5 @118 on the stock long block 318 with a 150 shot. The new motor is as of yet untested. Let me know when you do the same with the same level of mods.
I know all about Jules. None of the guys in the know go to him. I could say a lot here, but I better not. The t-bodies you mentioned are all bored examples of the same stocker. The 4 barrel Mopar sells is not a bolt on affair. This is why I did not mention it. I've been doing this a long guys. I miss few if any new parts when they come out. Ask yourself this:how many 11 second daily driven Dakotas have I seen lately?

What ever happened to High Risk?
Haven't seen any posts from him lately, he must be too busy getting his Lightning in the 11's to spend time on the board.

Wyldman: Remove your bed, Snuglid, Bedrug, hitch, passenger seat, A/C system, spare tire, stereo system, and any other dead weight you can find to get down to fighting weight with OBD. Let's make this a fair fight.
P.S. Leave the cowl screw covers on (too much drag without them).

Lightning Bob,

I am currently leaving all of that stuff on to how deep I can get w/it all. When the time comes for real racin', you can gaurentee, Beastie's gonna strip like a club table dancer.

I believe in the George Forman school of training: pack as much wieght as possible until the time comes, then drop it like a hot rock.
