Got busted tonight.

Ok guys I think that Im in some deep sh--. I got busted by a cop coming out of a party and I got to apper in court in september. The charges the cop gave me were exhibition of speed 12 points, and wreckless driving 8, now I told the cop that i didnt meant to peel the tires the floor was wet it was raining and I just accelerated to the speed limit,he didnt buy the story and told me the i could explain that to the judge. From my point of view the cop didnt saw when I took off because it took him a while to pull me over, and I didnt saw a cop in sight he just heard the noise of the engine. It wasnt that bad to diserve a 20point ticket!! I dont know what to do guys, this is my first ticket in that situation. The only thing Im going to say is that in was raining and it was a corner and I have a preformace vehicle that peels the tires easily. I was to be honest I dont want to get my licence suspended for a stupid reson, any of you have been in this situation?? what is the penalty that the judge has given you?? I hope everything comes fine

hey bro, sorry to hear about your situation. i got a wreakless driving ticket about a year ago for doing 75 in a 35 and racing. the first thing the cop said was if you were racing that mustang you won i got a wreakless driving ticket and i had to appear in court and i got my licence pulled for 90 days!! and10 days in jail, but it was suspended, also there were alot of fines and court fees that drained me. but i would suggest getting a lawyer if you can afford it, might be able to get it droped to carless driving which is alot better than wreakless. some insurance companies can drop your policy for that. good luck bro. look on the bright side, im in the navy and on deployment right now, i havent seen my L in 5 months i have to spend my free time on this forum looking at other peoples L's. i would rather be the one driving back from a party driving our trucks like they should be driven

Here's what I did in my situation. 2 years ago when I had the misfortune to be living in VA (no offense Virginians, but VA is the most restrictive state in which I've lived), I got a ticket for going 82 on the highway. Automatic reckless driving because anything over 80 MPH or 15 over the posted speed limit is considered reckless driving in the Commonwealth. I took one of those online Defensive Driving courses before going to court, and asked the judge if he'd reduce the charge to speeding. Didn't give him any BS, just said I made a mistake. He reduced the charge and made me pay a $100 fine. Better than the alternative. BTW, Traffic Court is all about the Benjamins.

Sorry to hear it SVT Lover

Judges have heard it all, and very few and between will they buy a BS story.
Rather than hitting them with the ole wet foot trick, I'd say you stand a better change with the, "Your Honor I drive one of the fastest vechicles in America, and it's extremely loud, and I feel I did nothing wrong, nor was I speeding. My truck sounds like it's doing 100 when your doing 50 and I believe
the Police Officer simply misjudged that as "taking off too fast", but I DID NOT.
Then you cry a little and say I can't afford a ticket, bla bla bla, especially two, and even more so when I feel they were giving in response to the sound and not the speed I was traveling

Here in NY when you plead Not Guilty on a ticket, (especially multi tickets),
you go to court and try and cut a deal with the DA (or assitant Da, or who ever the hell is there) In most cases it's a giving, it actually seems the more trouble your in, and the longer you put it off, the more automatic it becomes to plea bargin to a lesser charge. Remember the Police Officer has to show up in court when you plead Not Guilty, so you should DEF cancell the first appearance, then show for the second, (and hopefully he doesn't) then maybe cancell the next appearance, then show for the next and hope he doesn't, and then for the next one, (it'll usually be marked for disposition only by this time), you really pray he doesnt show, and they throw it out, or at least plea it down to something much lesser in fines and points.

Of course I've also had that backfire after putting an appearance off for @ two years. The Cop still showed up, (100+ speeding ticket I got on a Bike), fabricated an entire BS story, (not one word was the truth), and of course he won, his word is written in stone it appears *@#$%(#@$%(#$%(#$%(@$
No matter how much he BS's
Ended up costing me over $500.00 in fine's, over 1K for a Lawyer, and I still lost my License, (but the Lawyer did manage to get that back shortly afterwards)

Either way, GOOD LUCK!!

You need to get "lawyered up" because the DA will have more respect against you in Court as far as plea bargaining is concerned, and hopefully the lawyer can ask the wonderful police officer a few questions to attack his credibility.

I hate kangaroo (traffic) court because you are guilty unless you can prove innocence. It's as$ backwards. Good luck.

Hey man, Im sorry to hear about it. I would lecture you about being more careful and the such, but I know what fun these trucks are, sometimes you just can't help it. Eitherway, good luck with that and I hope you can get it bumped down, but just remember in a year or so if you get pulled over, dont expect any warnings cause that will still show up when the run your license number.

Somehow, I don't think that argument is going to work.

if you haven't been in trouble in the last 5or so years you can plead no contest and only pay a fine but it won't appear on your driving record that you got tickets

get a lawyer, exhibition of speed is a very subjective issue and isn't cut and dry like speeding or running a redlight. These things usually don't stand up in court with good lawyer or at least something lesser.

No offense, but you need to learn to SHUT UP around a cop. That doesn't mean to be a jerk to him. Mantain respect. It only makes your position worse when goads you in to admitting to his charges. Now, you said that the cop "heard the noise of your engine" and decided to pursue. If at the time he observed you he measured your speed or got a radar of you, that's pretty solid. If he simply just heard your engine, he had probable cause to pursue but engine noise doesn't constitute reckless driving or speed. You need to get a lawyer.

I got nailed for speeding two years ago, racing two pick-up trucks, However I was so far ahead, that the cop (going in the opposite direction) did not realized that we where racing!!! Nevertheless, she got me for 105 in a 50… Now normally here in east Texas; anything over 25 is a strait to jail ride… Fortunately for me, she was part of the Labor Day task force, and had a quota to meet… She did not want to spend the time to book me…. Conclusion: got a lawyer pleaded guilty, the lawyer plea-bargaining with the DA for deferred judification?? Paid the fine, and after 6 months my record was cleared… Of course, it helped that I had no tickets in the past 20 years… Total cost for wining that race $1,400.00.

I'd invest some money in an attorney.
