Now being a Police Officer myself I have this to say:
All of us here that drive Lightnings (or any other car)pretty much have some type of mods done to our trucks. Even if you are bone stock your truck is still fast and regardless of your driving habits eventually your gonna get stopped some day for something wether your guilty of the vioaltion or not.
RULE #1
Be courteous to the officer, yeah he might be having a bad day but if you act like a tool I guarantee your day will be worse.
RULE #2
He is doing his job! If you dont like it or you hate cops for no reason other than your an idiot then tough chit.
RULE #3
We really dont like getting out of the car in the rain - DO YOU?
RULE #4
We dont have to be in court when your there (urban legend) I can simply tell the prosecuter to either cut you a break or not if I choose.
RULE#5
If you get caught doing something stupid (even me), it's not the officers fault so just wear it and go on with your life - chalk it up to a learning experience of what not to do.
RULE#6
Take it to the track!

Cops do make mistakes like everyone else.
I had one pull me over for the same thing. I was going under the speed limit, though and just accelerated a little past 1/2 throttle. He wanted to know what that annoying noise was. Got a ticket for exhibition of speed...blah blah blah. Went to court and Judge threw it out when he found out what type of vehicle I was driving. Told the cop thank you for wasting my time and the defendant's time. End of story.

"Your Honor, this entire episode was directly caused by my extremely large Right foot, it's a birth defect. I'd show the Court but, then I'd never get this shoe back on, certainly you can understand that. And may I add that is beautiful tie you have on. A gift from the wife no doubt."

If the officer didn't have credibility in court, he would be useless as an officer, as he wouldn't be able to testify in trials, if he had weak credibility

it was wet , so he must of seen you fishtailing as you battled the steering wheel for control.., right ? Possibly he heard the violent high pitched rip of tires spinning on wet pavement. In any event the best advice is to go to court and play the game for reduced points/school/probation/fine/ etc etc...

svtlover, I think this is an interesting strategy.........get a cast/crutches, be polite to the judge while playing the sympathy card.

There are way too many cops out there that pull people over for BS, and are too lazy to go after the red light runners or the idiots driving slow in the left lane. I've noticed that many cops drive the speed limit only when they are daring someone to inch past them. Otherwise, they go 15-20 MPH over the limit, use their lights to get through intersections, etc. I'm sorry, but I don't buy into them all being on a "call" when those lights go on to get through an intersection, then immediately go off again as soon as they get through. Too much ego in too many cases.
God complex??? That is the typical response from someone that has no idea what they are talking about! What you think is a "BS" ticket may save someones life just by the officer "Doing his Job" and stopping the errant driver for what they feel is stupid violation or "that cop is picking on me" attitude. I dont believe in writting people for the minor infractions unless it posses a threat to someones safety or you run a red light in my presence (which I will gladly chase you down and give you a ticket for).
When you make comments like that you show your ignorance of the Police that are there for YOUR safety and of the law and its you who shows a GOD COMPLEX with that attitude. Obviously you have had a run in with the Police in your past and feel that you did nothing wrong or that you got caught and the other guy got away with it!
Your right, when those lights go on we may not be responding to a call but may have to get somewhere a little bit faster than the normal flow of traffic but without exceeding the speed limit by a great deal so if we have to get through an intersection by hitting the lights then so be it. Yes, some cops do that because they are impatient but most of us are doing it for a reason. Your not in the car nor do you know what is going on. We could be racing to a call to save your life or someone that you care about or if we are speeding without the lights and or siren on its probably because we are going to a hot call and dont want to announce that we are coming. In any case, as I said, you dont know what your talking about and it sounds like you have the EGO PROBLEM!
[QUOTE=svtlover]
I cant say because I dont know your laws and how they read. In this state (NJ), lightning up the wheels would probably be considered careless driving which is a 2 point ticket but then again it depends on the circumstances of the situation. If you only did as you posted then I would agree that the officer was a little hard on you. Then again, if there is more to the story than your offering to us then I say you got what you deserve. Either way, when you go to court, talk to the prosecutor and the officer if he is there and nicely ask for a break. Maybe they will agree to downgrade the summons to a lesser charge for you.
