I got this postcard today from Ford mailed out of Southgate Michigan:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Important Parts Notification
Safety Recall 05S28

Dear <me>,
In February 2005 we mailed you a letter announcing Safety Recall 05S28. PARTS ARE NOW AVAILABLE TO REPAIR YOUR VEHICLE. At no charge to you, your dealer will install a new speed control deactivation switch and restore normal operation to the speed control system. Please contact your dealer to schedule an appointment to have this service performed.

Sincerely,
/S/ Frank M. Ligon
Director
Service Engineering Operations

I'll post after I have had the fix....

Anyone been able to pick-up or get this part so as to not waste time at the dealer getting it done. They told me 2-3 hrs.

Arrow Parts Available

I watched a TV news report here in Orlando yesterday that said that replacement parts are now available here in the Central Florida area. They also said the repair is recommended for all affected Fords, even those not yet officially recalled. The report quoted a dealer charge of $60-$70 if the repair is done on a non-recalled vehicle.

Houndog,
You think 2-3 hours is bad, my dealer said I had to leave it a half a day...what it comes down to is that this is "warranty" work that the dealer does not "profit" on as much as "non-warranty" work. They want to fit us in the gaps between the high paying jobs...we are just an annoyance...

Your dealer must be real lazy. I have a 98 and wanted the new cruise switch, i paid 27 bucks for it, and installed it myself in less than 5 minutes. Just unsscrew old one and screw in new one, dealer said to put a few drops of bake fluid in new sensore before installing.

i think it was 9/16 wrench on the old one and like a 1 inch wrench for the new sensor, also come with a new joiner wire, that adapts the plugs.

Took it in to the dealer this afternoon.... I waited about 40 minutes and it is the exact same thing as posted in the pictures in this thread including the cable tie to make it tidy.

According to the invoice the part number is:

1L1Z-9F924-AA (KIT-BRAKE RE)

I can't give you the price since it was warranty work....

Just got mine today, from oemfordparts.com.
List on the kit is 18.98, Southwest ford's price : 11.96. Add in shipping, and the total for a non-TX dest ( no sales tax ) is 20.30. Depending on your location shipping might change, mine was DFW to ORD.

Just drop oemfordparts.com an email. Jerry got me the part in a flash ( under a week start of email to it being on my door step ). Just need to get it installed this weekend, I am still using JMC's mod for the moment, so no big hurry for me. Thanks for posting the part number bobb. Jerry said they have no problem getting the parts since the release of them in APR, so any dealer telling you they can't get them, must be fibbing.

Recall

I have yet to receive any recall notices regarding my '02 Lightning. Of course, I bought it used last September, but I'm surprised I have had no problems with it (knock on wood).
