Here are pictures of what the dealer is doing on the first visit ..
If you can determine that your truck is affected all they are doing is unplugging a plug on the master cylinder.

Unlpug the red plug and tape the end of the female side and zip tie it so it cant short on anything
Hoope this saves a few trips to the dealer

I was told I that they need to document the initial step in order for you to qualify for the replacement parts. I specifically asked where it was so I could just do it. It was a buddy of mine at the service center and he said they had to do it. Much easier to have Ford do it in 15 minutes than for you to do it and risk the chance of not getting it fixed.

Others have posted that they called thier delaer and the service folks told them to unplug it .. I guess it depends on the dealer - of course the dealer gets paid from ford for each time you stop by ... Perhaps that makes a difference

Thanks for the heads up on the temp fix. I checked my 4x4 on the link and it came up needing the recall. I pulled the plug and taped the connector. I looked up the schematics and that plug is indeed connected to the battery and hot at all times. Unfortunatly if you pull the fuse, #13 in the central junction box, you will loose the brake switch, the affected brake pressure switch, and the flasher relay.

Wow this is great. I'm stuck in Korea and my truck is in storage. Then when I leave Korea it will be shipped to Italy. Now how in the hell am I supposed to get this fixed. I wonder if Ford will ship me the parts when they come in and I can replace them myself? Maybe I'm just screwed.
Checked the VIN and it does affect me.

The local NBC television station here in Orlando (Channel 2) did a big story on this last week. They showed a couple of central Florida houses that have burned down and several burned up F-150's. They also showed how the fires start.
The defective cruise control connection touches the front of the plastic brake fluid reservoir. When it heats up it melts the plastic, causing the brake fluid to run out and then sets the fluid on fire. Doesn't take long after that happens for everything to go up in flames.
The reporter implied that other model years might be recalled in the future. Although I checked the Ford Recall site and my L is not listed, to me, my '99 L cruise control connection looks identical to those of the recalled units.
My guess is that Ford knows they are the same but just happens to have more of the 2000 (and 2001 Supercrew) complaints on file, so that's all they are recalling now. 800,000 current recalls by itself is almost overwhelming – they don't want to have to deal with 3,000,000 until they're forced into it. Plus, they don't even have enough replacement parts in stock now for just the 2000's. So, until their suppliers can furnish the parts, I don't think we'll see a recall for other model years – unless, of course, there is a rash of fires in those models (and a lot of bad publicity).

I can envisage this scenario at some of the nastier dealers:
Customer: "So, did you take care of the CC recall?"
Service Manager: "Well...no. Is that an aftermarket chip in there? And it also looks like a larger diameter belt pulley. Sorry, but claim denied. Obviously, you aftermarket mods caused your CC problem."
