Now what I'm going to tell everyone is still under investigation but I became aware of this problem Jan4th when I responded to a structure fire here in Valdosta the owner had a 2001 F150 he had been home for 3 hours eating supper with his family when is dog went crazy barking at the garage door. When he opened the door his 2001 F150 was on fire in the engine compartment he used 2 extingishers then got his family out went back pulled his Suburban out then called 911 I got there in 6 min.the garage was totally gone the the fire had vented through the roof half way through the house.I had to call 3 departments in to help contain the fire. The house was around 6000 sq/ft huge. They lost about everything we saved some pictures of there baby and a few clothes that was it.The insurance ajuster said it was caused by the defect and this was the 2nd fire he had gone to where they found the Ford defect was the cause(on the 1st one anyway and I'm sure the 2nd fire also)My L is a 2001 and I'm a little leary of parking it under the carport of my house.Glade to see Ford is recalling them apparently the cruise control is straight wired to the battery it shorts out against a brake line setting the brake master cyl on fire.Sorry so long just a insite I had. What sucks is I had not been Chief but for 4 days but the delay in calling 911 was part of the problem we pretty much left it the way we found it.

Just got mine temporarily disconnected. The official fix for now is disconnecting a connecter and wrapping it up with electrical tape until the new parts arrive in APRIL. I'm glad I get to go without CC till April.......

Good news is that each visit is only scheduled for .3 hours, so you should be in and out really quick.

Is this recall for our Lightnings also???

The article only mentions the 2001 F-Series Supercrew for the 2001 year.

Why would the switch be any different?

has anyone checked to see how the cruise is really wired ? apparently, it's hot all the time. is this the small box right near where the air is drawn in from the driver's fender ? i KNOW it's the cruise control since it pulls the second cable on the throttle body, but i'd rather start pulling wires now if possible. if it IS hotwired to the battery, i wonder if there is a fuse that can be pulled ?

any info would be appreciated. and yes to answer question, it IS for 2000 F150's including lightnings, from what i've found out so far

You can check and see if your vehicle is affected here . I checked and my 2000L is subject to this.

There is no fuse to pull that is one of the problems it is straight wired to the battery.

Factory Recall! 2000 F-150

Just saw the News this morning. Some guy had a 2000 F-150 that went a blaze in the garage and set the rest of the house on fire. The cause; cruise control system. Ford reports at least 68 fires already and will recall all 2000 f-150`s. Apparently the fires occur while the car is not running and unattended.

Anyone here have this problem?

Nope.....but I do fall within the recall models. I have a 2000 f-150 that has been trouble free since I bought it new.

How come 97' - 99' don't have this problem...Or how comes the 99's aren't included in this, because 99 are when things in the F150, Expy, and Navagitors changed....
