Agreed. Do the right and honorable thing.

For what it's worth.. If you can put in a long block by yourself. You can do a short block too. I'm sure a few of the Lightning brothers could swing by and help you put that thing back together. (if that's what's wrong)

Or... just bite the bullit and get a built long block.
I would even given the financial situation you described. Maybe get a moonlighting job this winter and get it mostly paid for too..

Hopefully you paid by credit card for proof when you got the gas and kept the receipt....

I had this occur on me when I had my Gen 1, do not blow engine it just would not run anymore. The Mobil station manager wrote me a check for $650 for the tow and local Ford dealership flushing the tank clean injectors etc. when I brought a test sample into the station with bill from dealership. I was not the only person he had to pay.
That is why I always keep my gas recipts. Sorry to hear about you loss, and hope you get it back running soon.

don't start the "gotta pay to play" B.S. I never said I was going to go after ford for the warranty, It was mearly suggested by other lightning owners so get off your high horses and chill out. they gave me enough trouble over my leaky foglight which still wasn't fixed properly. anyways who's to say the extra boost caused the failure anyway? the truck was way below 3/4 boost which was less than the "stock" 8-10 lbs when it went, and the motor hasn't even been torn down yet, easy to post the pay to play crap but no interest into actually finding out what happened so maybe ford can improve the next gen lightning. thanks for your thoughts

thanks for all the tips everyone. My plan is to either get a built block in the spring, or option 2 which I am leaning toward fix the truck and trade it in on a 04 lightning or something else and keep the mileage low and the vehicle stock and wait for the Gen 3 lightning to come out. If anyone has any feedback on that idea let me know. any news on the Gen 3? will it be worth the wait? or should I go built block?

Hey wkuper11 give these guys a call, the last time I checked them for a built block they quoted me around $6000 and they specialize in the L. Ask for TC, good luck, here's the link.

This is exactly the reason why I've only lowered my truck, put on an AIRAID, and a cowl hood....THAT'S IT. I will definately keep my truck stock as long as these horror stories keep coming. Good Luck getting your truck fixed and ditch the trade it in idea. You may be sorry. The beating you'll take on "trade-in value" will be close to what a built block will cost.

I would check the gas. You see a lot of problems with gas and fuel now days with the cost of it. I buy a lot of fuel in my truck now days (about $600 to $700 a day). I see a lot fo bull with fuel out their.

I put fuel in my boat and on of the motors ran good the other one shut off because of water in the fuel we hab to drain feul and we had to play with it for 2 or 3 weeks.

You can call the state and they will check the fuel for water and all the other things. They will call you or wright you to let you know what they find. They have helped me a time or two.

You will see some $#it out their like I buy gas for the boat in drums so I will not have to pull it up the road. I put 60 gals of gas in a 55 gal. drum. The state checked the pumps and found they where off.

I have not worked on the new mod motors but have put a lot of the push rod motors together. We have raced for about 15 years
blow up a few. I would look a the head gaskets. I would think that a lot of boost would cause a problem with stock gaskets. I do not know how a mod motor top end works but I have had gasket to blow and leak oil out no the ground and in the water and in the cylinder. It can do a lot funny things.

I have some side kicks that work at ford and they have fixed some trucks for people that have kicked rod out. They told me they could get a motor for about $5000.00 top to bottom just add fire and gas. check with some one that work a ford they can get it for you.

sorry about you truck man.

I have too many mods that can't be removed, like the magnum blower, I don't have the stock blower.

If you need a stock blower i have a spare you can borrow man. Id even pay shipping your way for you. Let me know what you decide to do. If you decide to sell i would also like ot be first in line on buying your magnum powers.

Email me or reply on here if you need the blower Blwntrk@charter.net

How many blown blocks did any of the tuners or diablo pay for? How many did ford pay for that had mods? I bet ford payed for more modded motors than diablo or any other tuner. But I guess the saying of you play you pay doesent fit, maybe its all in the tune. (remember those great first tunes, nothing like melted pistons and plugs, so who paid for the tuners learning curve?)

Yeah maybe ford should make the next L handle a 200 shot, and run 9's stock, but then people would want 8's and complain about that blower and those rods and those transmissions that won't hold up.

wkuper11 - my posts were not directly pointed at you, mostly to the guys who brag about screwing ford and think that they are king ***** because of it. - in reality taking something that isnt yours is stealing - it states in my owerners manual that mods will void the warrenty - so a person can not even plead ingnorance - hell I haven't seen a sign at walmart that says taking something is stealing, but I still know it is.

BTW - you mod don't be a ***

thanks for all the tips guys, I really appreciate it. I am going to check with the dealers next week and see what they would give me on trade in value for the truck (if it was still running) to see if its worth it to fix it and trade it in. If not I'll save for the built block.
If I plan to sell my parts I'll let everyone know before I post them on NLOC.
Guys with the all out built blocks, heads, etc. was it worth it? can they still be driven long distances and everyday? are they reliable?

I don't have one but I think the guys who have them got them for that main reason, reliability and can handle lots more HP without breaking, with a good tune that is.

Do you have any idea of what numbers the truck was making? And do you know if your MAF was pegging?

truck was making 462hp and 560 lb/ft in 85 degree weather on the warm street program, I had a pro M, so it wasn't pegging. it was around 80 degrees when it blew.
