What kind of mods?

Was it a 60 + kickdown pass?

Those seem to be the most damaging thing we can do to these engines

Good Luck ...

That sucks...
Sorry to hear your loss.
Built short blocks are 3500... just need to price out everything else.

Sorry About Your Motor

I bought a JLP built shortblock, but I plan on keeping my L and just adding to it every year. It is a 2000, and last dyno had it at almost 560 hp and 697 torque. Already have plans for this winter.I guess spending the money on a built block depends on your plans for the truck. If you are going to dump it in a year or two, then I would think it would be a bad investment.

Good Luck,
Mark

I know exactly how you feel man. I went through this myself. There's nothing worse than looking back on the highway as the tow truck is driving away and having it look like a damn crime scene. I was feeling the same way that you feel now, thinking.........Just put it back together and get rid of it. I am SOO glad that I decided not to do that. I decided to go with a built motor and I've never looked back since. In fact, if I had it to do over again, I would have done it the same way. When it comes to the cost of a built motor as adverse to a used stock one, there is little difference. Unless you get a stocker at a bargain, and even still you chance having it happen again. I agree with Ak.Silver2K, if you plan to dump it in a few years, than fix it and trade it in. But think of all that you'd miss as a Lightning owner. Definitely take that into consideration before you make a decision. This is no mere enthusiast vehicle group of people, this is a Family. Hell, I'd give any Lightning owner the shirt off my back and I know that they would do the same. That speaks volumes. So go out there and start shopping built motors, and if you need a hand.......just ask away. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Sorry for the long post and the rant, just felt the need to say all that because I know how you feel.

VERY WELL SAID MORPHEUS,

You guys have no idea how much I have out on credit, it is absolutely killing me, I can not afford two new cars and I use the Mitsubishi for work everyday to keep the Beast new and spiffy.
(My 02L still only has 13K on it, the 03 Mits has 24K already) I constantly question myself on what the hell am I doing paying 550.00 per month for something I hardly drive. (289.00 for Mits)
There are only two answers
1. Sometimes I swear I keep it just to be able to hang out with you guys and be part of this FAMILY, I don't believe any other Forum could be like this.

and 2. When I do drive it, I FRUCKING DRIVE IT,
I truly believe nothing else will ever compare with the Beauty, Speed, and Comfort of these Fine Machines

wkuper11, I am sooooooooooo sorry I dread that day with Credit Nightmares knowing it's coming to me someday. But you'd get hammered selling it the way it is, and to put it right back to where it was kinda dont make sence. What the fruck, go for the gusto amd simply get a nice built small block and use your upper motor (providing it's all fine and dandy) and don't add another thing. With people like Tommy from Outrageous Performance , you could prob pull that off for under 6K

Look in this post here, I recently asked Tommy that question and was very happy with the prices he quoted
https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...us+performance

AGAIN I'M VERRY SORRY BRO, but get it running again, with a strong bottom, and then make the decision...................

Didn't JDM tell us that the Magnum Powers were going to be easy on the stock rods and not blow the motor

wkuper; I feel for you dude. I will probably be there one day myself. Check out VT Engines, and if you need heads check out Patriot Performance(FYI some of the big L vendors use Patriot for there head porting)

Generally out of the aftermarket blowers out there the Magnum is more gentle than the others. He could have just simply got a bad tank of gas. There has been trucks that made less power and blew up on the Eaton.

Walt,

I have a really good deal for a stock short block and install if thats the route you decide to go. I'll call you a little later in the day.

the tank of bad gas thing pisses me off b/c that may be what happened, I had just put in $12 worth of mobil 93 octane from a gas station that I normally don't go to, but have been to many times before. I put the gas in about 5 min before it went.
Jim I may interested in the deal for the stock short block. or my other option is to get a built "long block" and do the install myself. I may just get the stocker and trade it though, but trade it for what? whats out there? I've never known anything but ford, and I'm only 22 years old with student loan bills so the trade in would have to be something less than or equal to what I paid for the lightning. It looks like the built long block will be around 10k or just under which is a little out of my price range right now.

First his truck is made famous on Ebay and now he's getting pats on the back. Fellas, this guy will be impossible to live with around here. Where's Gator to keep this thing balanced? j/k
