Question some more tick tick tick questions

Red92 started a thread asking about some ticking in his engine bay that turned out to be a loose plug

https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...hreadid=144666

so i got curious and went and listened to my engine...it ticks!!!
it sounds like its coming from a couple of spots, on both sides of the engine, and its very rapid.

a friend of mine (with some experience in cars) mentioned that it could be my fuel injectors...is that possible, or should i start pulling coil packs to check for loose plugs?

TIA

if its coming from all over the place im betting its injectors, if a plug is leaking then most of the time you can hear it with the hood closed, also listen in tip in

Mine does the same thing.

I stuck a stethoscope against the injectors, and they make a rapid taping noise. All my coil packs were making a constant buzing sound, like electricity flowing thru them.

It may be injectors, or it may be a loose plug. I'd say check your plugs to be on the safe side.

Mine makes the "tapping" sound on occasions and I KNOW my plugs are tight on my bone-stock '02 L (local L owners checked mine as I observed).

Almost at 17K miles, too.

often ticking is injectors, i think loose plugs is more of a tapping if that makes sense.

Dennis, If the sound your hearing is as simple as fuel injectors you would have noticed it long ago.... Sometimes the piston slap will be louder than other times but it changes pitch and sometimes you dont hear it at all., plus you would have noticed that already to.

If you have an aftermarket pulley you need to check it. I found that my 2# pulley fits much better than my 4# and if the allen head bolt heads are making contact with the edge of the pulley it will make a clicking sound that can be loud and will sound just like the injectors but louder. , or they could be loose.... Check the bolts for tightness .....

red,

im gonna get under there tomorrow and dig around everywhere to double check and make sure. im a little paranoid about it! after i read your thread, i went out and listened to my engine, because i had jsut changed my plugs that day and there was ticking, but i never noticed it before (i dont know if i ever paid that much attention though)...

but im definately gonna check everything because i cant afford a new head!!!

thanks for bringing it to my attention, you da man!
