Help! Blower removal problem

I ran into a problem removing my blower to get ported and clean the intercooler..The last bolt on the drivers side came out about 4 to 5 threads and is not moving..I have to use a 1/2" breaker bar on it.I have broken 2 sockets..I have it soaking in penatrating oil now..Any ideas would be greatly appreciated... thks, Lou

Ouch ... That doesn't seem like it should be.

Good Luck ... Hope it's not destroyed.

Same thing happened to me. I had to pound a 1/2" socket onto it and let some oil soak into it. After a while it came out. It looked like it was rusted in place. I still have the bolt with the socket attached. It won't come off.

What i think it is are the 2 different metals...A couple of the front ones were very corroded also..Did you try to go in and out with it to help it loosen up after the penetrating oil??? also has anyone suggested antiseize compound after i get it out..I am afraid i will round off the nut or snap the bolt...

I'll be doing mine in a few weeks when the snow melts *$@#*#

Lots seem to be experiencing this rusted bolt issue,
Yesterday Gator mentioned 1 or 2 troubled bolts he ran into too,
he also mentioned that no Anti-Seize should be used.

Once my bolt came loose it just backed out. Yours seems to be more difficult. Recommend that if it stops backing out, try working it both ways. Not sure how to remedy this except new bolts, clean the threads and put some sort of sealant in there. Maybe pull the bolts out periodically. Sucks doesn't it?

I already bought new bolts and gaskets..The biggest problem is i cannot turn it with a regular ratchet.. iI have to use a breaker bar...If i can finally get it out i am afraid the intercooler bolts might be the same..Has anyone ever broken a bolt??

After pulling everything down to the lower intake, I think the only problem bolts you are going to have is with the S/C bolts. For me everything was easy after the S/C came off. I think the tech who did my I/C change must have been a Gorilla. Those things were tight as hell.

if absolute worse came to worse then youll probably have to drill it out and tap it

I had a hella time getting mine out. Sounded like a 22 went off every time I broke the bolts loose. I used a 2 foot long 1/2 inch drive breaker bar to remove the "bad one". Threads where galled up and aluminum stuck to the threads. Had to run a long tap down in the hole to clean the threads. Everythings good now, thanks to JDM, but it sure looked bad for a while.

I was advised not to use neverseize as the expansion of the different size thickness of the blower/intercooler/intake manifold "might" cause the bolts to loosen. I do know Ford didn't use any

Same thing happened to me. It took more time to get that one bolt out than it took to remove all the other bolts combined.

My machinest buddy said he would come fix it for me before I put the blower back on. He said from the amount of aluminum on the bolt he didn't think there would be enough left to tap. He is thinking he is probably going to have to drill it out and put in a helicoil.

I am tempted to use some antisieze when I put mine back together. The bolts are easy enough to check for tightness every once in a while.

Well guys thanks for the input..Last night i tried again for about 2 hours managing to move it up and down about a quarter of an inch..So after spending about a total of 4 or 5 hours on that one bolt i gave up...I put it all back together again...Thanks for your input.. I will end up bringing it to JDM or a local machine shop up here in Masachusetts....

A good mechanic never gives up. Blaster is probably the best penitrating oil out there for bolts like this. Try using a plumbers torch, gradually heating the area. If you got it to move a little the heat should help getting it out clean.

when I removed mine, most of the bolts came right out, but 2 of them I had to use force all the way, until it was removed.
It didn't have rust on it, it only had some loctite stuff on it.

HEY...
since it's been 2 degrees here (michigan) I haven't put the new s/c on.

HOW TIGHT DO I TORQUE THEM DOWN ON INSTALL?
