FYI - things to look for ...
I think for the most part the dealers try to make you happy during the sale. I have never had a bad buying experience. Now service, that is another story. I'm sure we all could go on and on about that. Hard to find a good service center.
Yeah, it sounds like they are trying to make it right. I'm sure he will make out just fine.

I want to personally (by post) ...
Thank each and every one of you for your support - it means a lot to read others are on my side with this - it's discouraging to have to deal with this but you guys are helping - thanks again...
BTW, so far I haven't been disrespected - I am hopeful the dealer will do the right thing, however, it has to be what I want and I want a NEW cover the other ***** is minor but the cover HAS to be replaced with NEW - I will not stand for a re-paint... I paid for new - not damaged and repainted.
thanks again - I will continue to march...

I hope all works out for you, I agree with some of what all have said here but the bottom line I feel is: You as the buyer have the right to be completely satisfied within reasonable guidelines. I do not work for a Dealer but I do perform custom work for a few in my area. I have found (and seen first hand) a persistant but fair person does far better than one that looses it with a business person. I believe your dealer wants to keep you happy,(future sales and referrals) and SHOULD work WITH you do just that. If you feel that is not happening I suggest you ask to speak with the GM or owner of the dealership in question. Stay calm and be persistant regarding your request, assuming they are reasonable. These are only my opinions,,,,, just trying to help, not knocking anyone! GOODLUCK ... and no matter what, enjoy your new vehicle!

I don't know do you think I'm being to picky - ??? Is it getting that bad now - that we shouldn't expect any quality anymore unless were spending over 50K -?
I mean I'm used to getting black coffee after ordering light at Dunkin' Donuts and driving off and checking the coffee to find black - but that's only $1.75 ...

dealer if you start off that way. Let's just say it's a lot
easier to capture flies with honey than vinegar... It's
just a f'in truck, not even as expensive as most other
Ford trucks ...
Methinks you are expecting Jaguar service on Volkswagen pricing.

PAINT them at teh local shop. Sorry pal ... You're stuck
with the best that your dealer of choice's paint shop can do.
(Maybe another criteria in selecting a dealer, hmmmm?)
I would defy you to pick out a new bumper when painted
next to your old bumper repaired ...

As I stated in my posts -
I am venting here ...I have NOT - say again NOT - say again NOT - say again NOT ... displayed any attitude towards my dealer
For those of you that are SLOW on the up-take (svt_ky) once more - I have NOT displayed any attitude towards my dealer ...
2nd - I have dealt with this dealer before this is NOT my first purchase with them as a matter of fact I traded a $40,000 02 F350 in on this Lightning so don't preach to me about what's expensive and what isn't ...
I don't give a Rat's A$$ if I paid $4.00 at the dealer the fact is I'm the customer and he has an obligation to make me whole - especially on a new truck purchase ...
Maybe your afraid to speak up - but some of us have *****... Stick your antagonistic comments directly up your A$$... There's one in every group... You should be ashamed of yourself...

The cover scratches are an issue, but I would be more worried about the buff marks on the fender. Often that can indicate damage during shipment that was repaired at the dealership. Might also explain some of the other issues (scratches, antenna, etc)
So check it close, it may have already had body filler and repaint.

Whats the latest on your front bumper?
on a side note, will your discussing the status of your new Lightning, make a sly comment on how you saw the "Lightning Concept" vehicle and you would be very interested in purchasing one when they come out.
I know you said you dealt with the dealer before, but you should see my dealer jump thru hoops now that I have said the above thing to them. And I bought my 99 L and my current 01L from them

status - update...
For those that care -
I just got off the phone with the Finance manager he states "we will make good on all your problems"
But here's a funny one - the $179.00 security issue is this - they etched my glass with some numbers and apparently the company that does this also backs the vehicle with some type of insurance policy to cover your deductible in case of theft and recovery or theft and loss... I was completely unaware of that - and did not authorize it but was charged anyway ...
I'm tellin' ya' you need an attorney to buy a friggin' car now...

did they etch the glass already?
Here's a story to hopefully make ya feel better...
back in 99 when I ordered my first Lightning, man was I hyped! The dealer at first didn't even know about the trucks...anyway I go and sign the papers after all the waiting was over...SUPER HYPED...truck cost more than I thought it should (that always happens)
Next day Iam going over the paperwork and there is a charge for $179.00 You guessed it, glass etching with your vin number, suppose to make your vehicle less desirable to steal. I call the dealer and get the pony show how its a standard fee, bla, bla, bla
But the best part was I had to make an appointment for the etching at the dealership, so the outside contractor could do this work.
So I made an appointment, but missed it and explained that I had to work that day.
Made another appointment, but missed it and explained that I couldn't drive because I was sick...hehe
Made another appointment, but missed it and said I forgot
Made another appointment...the dealer called to remind me, but I missed it anyway
They might have got my $179, but I had fun and I bet that "outside contractor" billed the dealership for wasted time and they changed the way they went about etching windows

Glad to hear things are working out for you regarding your new truck. I would make them show you on the contract where you authorized this security feature that they charged you for. If they haven't done the etching yet, it seems like it should be easy enough to get the charge removed. Dealers like to stick all these little extras on that you don't want or necessarily need. It's all part of the profit. For everyone they have to refund, they probably get away with a dozen unsuspecting buyers that they charge for this. SVT_SKY is correct that all new bumpers have to be painted, but at least a new cover won't have scratches that need to be fixed. Depending on how deep the scrapes are, it can be difficult to fix a urethane bumper cover and new may be the only alternative. Good luck.

imagine .... What a F *** head ...

02 Silver L, wheel locks on the wheels. Old nuts neatly wrapped in a bag in glove box. Only complaint was the 2 scratches down the bottom of the facia from the ramps on the truck. Didn't want overspray on the frame and underside, so left it alone. Other than that, the old L was in great shape when we took delivery and in the same condition (little less rubber and brake pads) when it was sold.
my .02 . Sonic, yes your buying an expensive vehicle and yes you deserve to have a new vehicle for a new vehicle price, BUT yelling at everyone in here doesnt make anyone want to jump to your support. I realize your "venting" but jesus. Like navi said, be resonable to them(and other forum members) and they will be resonable to you. All you gotta say is hey theres a problem can we do something about it, no one wants to be yelled at by you esp when were not the one selling you the truck. SVT_KY was just giving you info, i think hes got plenty of right to tell you to **** of now.
being in business, I've somewhat fomed the mindset that if the customer isn't acting or trying to enforce something upon us, to just ask them to leave. If I sold the truck and someone complained and started right off the bat yelling and didn't conduct themselves in a civilized proper manner, I would give them back any money that they had spent and ask them to find another dealer. We will not stand for this treatment. Good bye.
