Retrofit

Hey guys, me again. This time im going with retrofits. I am already running lightning heads with Pnp hid's. Im will be getting the projectors from the retrofitsource. My question is that since I already have hid ballasts would I have to use the ones that they send me with the kit? Cause the ones I have right now have a regular halogen high beam. Would that work with the new ones that have a hid high beam?

if the ballast you have came with a hid low and halogen high beam, the morimoto ballast will definately be what you want to use. if you're looking to save money the ballast you have will work, but if you have the morimoto's coming by all means use those.

I will use the morimotos then since they should work better. I was just seeing if I could bypass some of the wiring hassle.

Mori's are the best aftermarket ballasts. They just announced that they have new 35W bulbs (brighter, more color, less warm-up!) and new ballasts (More RF shielding, thinner, quicker warm-up) so I might wait for those to come out first since the price will remain the same.

When are they due to be released? How less bright would the 6000k be than the 4300k? I kinda want them to have a bit of blue in them since my fogs are 8000k.

6000k you will lose about 500-800 lumens compared to 4300k (depending on age of the bulb), up to 1600 lumens total for 2 bulbs. Not worth it at all, stick to 4300k or 5000k. Your fogs, if its the cheap stuff, is probably a lot bluer than 8000k anyways.

Also, does anyone know of a detailed guide if retrofitting a 2000 f-150? The best one I saw so far was the 04-08 style buy powerz69.

Great choice. High output light that appears white on the road, but with the colorful flicker that these projectors have with the clear lenses it is very obvious that it isn't factory when driving toward you, so you still get the "cool look" factor. I have 5000k and it flickers blue & purple.

Did u do the retrofit also? If so how hard is it? Think it can be done over a weekend with them coming off on a Friday evening and put back on for the final time on sunday?

Easily. The minH1 retro-fit is far easier than the FXR I did. You could do the whole thing in a day easily if you have 4-5 hours. Both of my retro-fits required lots of cutting, while the Mini H1 in factory headlight housings is simply a bolt-on projector. Easy as opening the lights, bolting, aiming, sealing back up.

The older trucks (97-03) use a 9007 bulb and TRS has 9007 adapters for the Mini H1 I believe.

Alright guys, I have decided what I am getting. The Bi-Xenon FX-R Stage 3 Kit with Morimoto 5Five Ballasts, Morimoto 5Five 5000K D2S Bulbs, and their new Orbit Shroud. They say there is no modification required for the Orbit shroud to fit the FX-R projector. That would be a nice bonus. What do you guys think?

Also, which wire harness do I need? I have one that I bought with my current HID's but I want to use the one TRS sends me.

The one that you already have is the same thing minus the high beam connectors. I'd swap them out.

None of the shrouds require modification to fit the projector, but they will to fit in the F-150 housings
