Can I put a newer factory radio in my '04 SuperCrew?

My 2004 Super Crew has what seems to be a common problem.
The volume only goes up even when you turn it down unless you turn it down VERY slowly. I can't find any repair for this online.

I don't care for anything fancy in a radio. The perfect fix would be to just fix the volume on what I have.

Bear in mind I have replaced the wiring harness with one that included an AUX hook up and added an AUX jack in my dash by the lighter.

So...
1. Does anyone have a fix for the volume ****?
2. Can I replace the radio with a newer factory radio that might have MP3 or sync capability? Would my wiring harness still work?
3. Is there an aftermarket replacement that would look factory?

My truck is nine years old and will flip to 100K miles this weekend, but it still looks new on the inside and I'd rather not have a ghetto looking after market install.

Thanks guys.

the sync system will be a challenge to install in yer ride due to it being canbus based...

I have almost the same exact question as I have a '05 Screw that I'd like to update the head unit as well at least to a line in modification so I can play music thru my iphone. I'd love to hear some suggestions as well even if they're aftermarket but would prefer OEM. Mine also has a 6 CD changer as well

I put the entire 2005 Audiophile system in my 2004 and eventually swapped out the head unit with an Alpine double DIN so i could play thumb drives and use bluetooth. Everything connected to the factory harness and when I traded the truck I put the OEM head unit back in and installed the Alpine into my wifes 2008 Fusion. So I'd say any head unit from 2004 - 2008 will fit in any 2004 - 2008, all things being equal if you want a straight plug in install, an audiophile is not a simple plug in, but a standard head unit is. To the best of my knowledge, head units from Mustangs and Fusions fit also.

Just to be aware, if you choose an audiophile headunit ( comes with the sub ) you will need to add an OEM sub as it will not have much bass to it, everything will sound very hollow and high pitched as it is designed to amplify the highs where the sub creates the bass. Audiophile headunit has 3 plugs with 1 antenna plug and the one you will need has 2 plugs with the 1 antenna.

Also, Ford changed the antenna to the updated style in 2007, so you will need an antenna adapter ( $10 ) for any 2007/2008 radio, but 2004/2006 should be a direct swap. I would still go for one of those for the mp3 capability. If you happen to have an FX4 or higher trim model, feel under the back seat for a sub connector.

If you are willing to buy the sub, go the audiophile route!

I like my Pioneer 3200 better than any factory offering.

There are some less ghetto looking aftermarket options, but most can be easily spotted as being aftermarket. And those that don't are likely on the very high end.

You can install a radio from a 08 F-150 (or many others with chrome volume ****) and add MobileEase or SYNC to it. My old 08 F-150 radio currently resides in a 05 Ford Focus with a custom SYNC harness. That vehicle now supports MP3 CD's, Aux IN, Bluetooth Audio and Speakerphone.
