tarajerame..so my posts are good for a laugh ?
They say that when you lose one of your senses, the others become stronger to compensate.
For instance, when one loses his sense of humor (We don't spell it humour, just to irritate the
Brits.), one's sense of self-importance is enhanced.
You just don't get it do you !!
First I've never actually said anything about (England) being great.
It should be the UK by the way.
And my post about life in the US was a JOKE.
If you can laugh at yourself it says a lot about your character...If you can't, well there you go, point proven !!

Your post did not have one hint at being a joke. Neither this post or the one regarding gun control. Maybe you should try using some of the smileys or putting a small note that the posts is meant as humor. The way you wrote them both gives them the appearance that you are being serious. I believe you were and are now simply trying to make it appear as though they were meant in a humorous way because many of us have called you out.

If you don't, any Brit will be able to wind you up without even trying.

Actually my skin is pretty thick there just happens to be a few things I cannot tolerate and one of those is someone bad mouthing the USA. Especially after being here and enjoying the freedom we have and then going back to their country only to say bad things about us and how we should change this and that to be more like them. Our ancestors fled those places for a reason. There are a few things that chap my hide but that is one of them.
I'm sure you can understand that. Normally I try not to post in these types of threads but when I saw this one especially after his anti gun post and he is lipping off I just refused to sit by without saying something.
I think I have been polite with my posts which I will continue to do but he continues to insult and call people names.

I have made this post before in the King Ranch Forum many years ago.
Both Rockpick, Serotta, and others will tell you that it has always been meant in a light hearted way and they and others have never had a problem with it, taking it in good part.
I suggest the problem is with you and your sense of humor....or lack of it !!!
The ones who have "called me out" as you put it are probably newer members who do not know me.
If you really could not see that post as a joke, then perhaps you are one of those to whom Benny Hill jokes are more appropriate.
(Basic and easy to understand without any input of thought)
I'm also afraid that I must refer you back to another of my recent posts where I do nothing but praise the US and it's people.
I love the country...why would I have been going back for 30 years, driving and flying hundreds of thousands of miles all over the States making many lifelong friends.
You really have totally misconstrued what I was endeavouring to do....put a bit of levity a thread.
Again I will no doubt upset a few with this, but it is well known that IN GENERAL Americans do not appreciate or understand irony......give it a go anyway !!

I would have thought even to the most cursory of readers, the PS and PPS would have given a "slight" hint to the brevity of the post!
Richard will eventually do a search and read over your past posts, and come to the same conclusion. The typed word never quite conveys the facial expressions and audio twists and turns of face to face levity.
Peace!

I took the OP's message as a joke. Maybe since I lived in England for 4 years I have a better understanding of their dry sense of humor.
I for one liked Benny Hill. Mr. Bean was even better.

Well....you are totally wrong.

Americans are no less capable of anything (in general) than any other nationality. So many "people" (regardless of where the come from.) also confuse sarcasm with irony. While either can be appreciated in close friends or when turned on others, a stranger trying to be cute doesn't come of as well. As a dissembler and heavy user of both sarcasm and irony, I know this well. It's especially true on the internet. When someone whose beliefs you find disagreeable plies you with sarcasm, it's hard not to take offense, or assume the worst. Even after they beg off intending such.
