The wife and I stopped by the nearby ford dealership today to check out a 2011 Mustang 5.0 and the topic quickly turned towards a 2010 F150 I tried to buy almost two months ago. The truck is an XLT 4x4 with the 4.6v8 and 3.55 gears. The truck isn't optioned to special but it has the necessities in my opinion, like power windows,locks and seats. The salesman said he can let it go for $31k out the door and throw in leather seats and spray in bed liner, so thats a nice couple additions. With my trade i'm hoping to get the price down to around the $23k area out the door. Here's a few pics of the truck I just took. I get to keep it until tomorrow to see if I really want it or not. So far the only complaint I have is the typical slow shifting trans that ford is so popular about doing. I could try for a 2011 model and have been impressed with the 5.0's performance but the 4.6 get's the job done for me. So whats everyones opinion?

 

i would get the 5.0. but if you could get this one that you really like, get it.

 

Looks like a nice truck to me. The 5.4 is a good engine and had all the problems worked out by 2010. If it's what you really do want I'd get it. Definatley can't beat the price.

i could get a 2010 fx4 supercab with a 38550 sticker for $28k. you can get a 2011 xlt for the same price or close to that 31k.

a 2011 supercab fx4 with just the plus package i was at $31. xlt has $1000 more rebate right now and cheaper sticker than the base fx4 so you can do better. theres a reason the dealer can afford to throw in leather and bedliner in your $31k price.

 

I just don't see enough benefit from getting a 5.0 when the sticker for one identical to this truck just different motor costs $37k after the measely $1,500 rebate.

Yea my current 5.4 hasn't let me down so I don't have any problem going back to another.

I guess Texas prices are different. This dealer had an identical truck to this one just different motors and the 5.0's sticker started at $38k. A 2wd XLT crew cab 5.0 stickered at $36k. Dealers just don't budge a whole lot around here.

 

they will budge, if they don't go somewhere else. i'm driving up to fort worth tomorrow to pick up my new truck.

at a minimum you want to be at invoice - rebates. i got $1100 below invoice then rebates, hence why i am driving to fort worth.

you have to remember, you DONT have to buy a new truck you want to. get the best deal possible. if you are just wanting a base xlt 4x4 supercrew with a 5.0 the msrp is $37,170.

baton rouge rebates (don't know where you live, just went off your go tigers in your location) are $2500 off. invoice on that truck will be probably around $33500-$34000 i would imagine. 34,000-$2500= 31,500. and remember you can get below invoice and get the same exact deal for a 2011 as that 2010.

Yea. I have been trying to find a damn truck for the past couple months and can't find any deals like I see people posting about online. I'm about 5 hrs from Baton Rouge and may just have to drive that way for a better deal. I just realized something stupid on my part. The window sticker said 5.4 and with it being brand new I just didn't look under the hood but thought something was odd in the pic of the motor. Sure enough it's got the damn 4.6 3valve motor. Although it felt strong i'm definately not paying that much for the 4.6 motor. What a deal breaker.

 

I asked the salesman and he said they have an outside company that they will send the trucks too and get the cloth removed and have the seats rewrapped in leather. My neighbors wife just bought a fusion from this dealer last year and she had the same thing done. The material looks great and looks factory installed.

The 4.6 has Torque: 320 ft-lbs. @ 4000 rpm Horsepower: 292 hp @ 5700 rpm
The 5.4 has Torque: 365 ft-lbs. @ 3500 rpm Horsepower: 310 hp @ 5000 rpm

Theres really not much difference in the 2 motors to be a deal breaker

how far from fort worth are you? lady i have been dealing with has been great, no BS. no matter where you buy you get the same rebates, different state or not.

 

Got to digging around the truck and found the correct window sticker! Turns out this truck has 3.73 gears instead of 3.55's also.:lol Damn I feel like an idiot now. The 3.73's are a good ratio and the 4.6 isn't a bad motor. It's just the fact I didn't catch the differences. Anyway's. Here's the link to the window sticker.

Man its a nice truck but i think he wants just a little to much for it. Get him down to $28,000 then once you get your trade in etc be around 21,000 or so. Also maybe he will drop the price if you stick with the cloth seats. Just a suggestion.

 

be patient, new rebates come out on the 5th and i'm sure they will go up. for 31k i would hold out for a 2011 unless they go down atleast another 2500-3000, the new motors, 4.2 screen in the cluster, a year old model depreciation, etc makes the few hundred difference that you are at right now worth it to get a 2011.

 

I agree to the both of you. I'm sure he'll budge to $28k which I was gonna try to get down more anyway's. Now that I realized the motor differences, though not really a huge problem will give me the edge in negotiating the price. The leather seats and spray in bed liner cost about a $1,000 according to the salesman.
