Wookie, My focus is the per barrel price of crude then and now. BIG difference. BUT, the cost of the refined gas... small or no difference.

Yep. Gas hit just over $4/gallon here in Ga and we have some of the lowest gas taxes in the country.

How about encouraging cheap, domestically produced energy?

We've got plenty of potential for cheap domesitic energy in oil, coal and nuclear. This would be a HUGE boost for the economy and make us much less vulnerable to international problems.

Too bad the Dems have been appeasing the global warming alarmists, at the expense of the economy.

Bush got based because he was in the oil bidness before he was giving the seat at the white house...that's why it was his fault. Folks were pissed because he was getting rich.

Do any of you realize that Obama's administration lifted the oil moratorium in October of last year, but have yet to issue a drilling permit in the Gulf of Mexico to date? You think gas prices are high now.... wait.

That's funny, she'd probably eat kadaffee. From what I make of rising oil prices is pure speculation, projected fears (incoming hurricanes etc.), supposed travel increases and on and on that the open market thrives on. Interest in commodity goes up, price goes up and investors make money= we suffer. Ask me why in Canada, second largest oil producer in the world pay so much for fuel? Don't tell me we can't mine it, refine it and sell it to other countries? I don't understand why there is such a reliance on the middle east all the time. What can anyone do? It's like complaining about one cop to another, the "we'll look into it" factor arises. It's just all B/S.

If his administration would actually lift the ban in reality, not just theoretically, not only would it work to lower the price of gasoline, it would put hundreds, if not thousands of people back to work. Even if it did nothing for gas prices it would definitely add to the tax revenue for the country while lowering the unemployment costs. That sounds a lot like lowering government expenses and raising government income. Isn't that what we need right now?

A lot of folks can't understand how we came
to have an oil shortage here in our country.
~~~
Well, there's a very simple answer.
~~~
Nobody bothered to check the oil.
~~~
We just didn't know we were getting low.
~~~
The reason for that is purely geographical.
~~~
Our OIL is located in:
~~~
ALASKA
~~~
California
~~~
Coastal Florida
~~~
Coastal Louisiana
~~~
North Dakota
~~~
Wyoming
~~~
Colorado
~~~
Kansas
~~~
Oklahoma
~~~
Pennsylvania
And
Texas
~~~
Our dipsticks are located in DC

Any Questions? NO? Didn't think So.

The idea of "drill baby drill" works great until there is an accident!

Remember the outrage of the people in Louisiana when there was oil flowing into the Gulf?

Yes we need to get drilling but it isn't like that is going to send our fuel prices down to $.99 cents a gallon. Oil is traded on the world market. China and India are going to be demanding more fuel in the future. Guess what if Exxon-Mobil drills and gets a billion barrels of oil from the Gulf or Kansas or wherever, they will sell it to the highest bidder.

Obama can't do anything but sit back and see what is going to happen in these countries. I hope you don't think the protests to overthrow the Middle Eastern governments is going to stop in Libya. There are a boat load of dictatorships that are on the chopping block there. The difference is that Gaddafi plans to either be dead or kill the rest of his citizens if needed. They are sovereign countries and don't need us to stick in their business. Do you see Canada rolling tanks into Wisconsin to take over the governorship because the people are pissed?

Yes Bush got raked over the coals for gas going up because he was an oil guy and there was a perception that him and his family stood to benefit from higher oil prices. Fair or not is irrelevant.

Obama is a big proponent of alternative energy and is well deep in with the greenie agenda, political or whatnot. He could care less about oil. The problem is this country isn't ready to be weaned off oil just yet. The dipstick needs to do something.
