You shouldn't need to , - IF its's any good. You'll figure it out, the hard way.

I personally think using both programs every week is over kill. I would just scan with malwarebytes once a week then maybe twice a month run avast.
Just remember on malwarebytes that everytime you get ready to scan to click that update tab first and then run the scan. Also leave everything it picks up in quarantein.

Alot of people make the mistake to delete the threats it picks up and as soon as you delete them you will get the same infection back on the puter.

Did Avast pick anything up on the full scan? If it didnt pick anything up that just says how good Malwarebytes did.

If you're going to pay for one you should check out Nod32. One of the best IMO. I run that and Malwarebytes full time. You have to buy the subscription to Malwarebytes for full time protection but well worth it in my books.

Ok -- I've read all 4 pages of this thread and have come to the conclusion that if I ever have a problem with my laptop that goes beyond forgetting to plug it in, I'll be completely screwed!

Not to worry. Dell has finally decided to come out with their "no hard drive" computers which means no viruses, no trojans, no back doors, nothing but clean data. You'll see them as a commercial unit only at first but it'll filter down. There is no hard drive and no storage of data in the unit. Everything including programming is on minidiscs which are read only. Any storage you need is saved to disc. I think the Chinese with their latest antics has convinced Dell now is the time. The anti virus/malware people though will be out of business eventually.

Noooooooo, Keep Malwarebytes and Avast, keep both of them on your puter for future problems.
