I've had it with AVG. I gave it a try over AVIRA ( http://www.free-av.com/ )

AVG was a PITA, I ran it for a couple months on two computers. One w/Vitsa , the other with XP Pro. It was always popping up and asking questions. AVIRA just works without that nonsense. I've used AVIRA for over 5 years before trying AVG. I did try AVG honestly, since members here recommended it, - but it wasn't for me.

Well, the computer my wife got infected was running AVG at the time. The free part is nice, though.

Oh, and AVG updating does slow your computer down alot. Kaspersky is much less obtrusive when it updates - unnoticeable, even.

You know what the most amazing thing about this thread is? The Mac fanboys have not come in to gloat about being virus free, lol.

Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free, doesn't have a big footprint, it doesn't get in the way. It finds stuff that AVG can't.

Not a good idea, -yea conflicts or worse. Just run one GOOD free one that won't pester yuh.

http://www.free-av.com/

It's free and proven, - easy to use. Instead of dealing with a program that likes to pop up in your face all the time, -you can right click on anything, THEN it will give you options. I haven't tried MSE tho. I just always end up going back to AVIRA, it's the best so far.

None taken. Again I have tried them all from kaspersky, trend micro, avg, avast, and some others and find that its the least troublesome for me. I knew before I posted that most people hate it.

I've been using Sophos Antivirus on MOST of my computers for many years now. No virus problems. (The only reason I adopted it was that it was site-licensed to the University while I worked there). Since I'm retired, I get to continue to use it, so I do.

Then, for friends I recommended Avast, which seemed to protect them just fine, but it has to be "renewed" (the registration) each year.

Lately, I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials on my netbook and had my Sister put it on her desktop. It seems rock-solid.

I've never had a virus problem and neither have my friends or Sister.

Never Run two Anti Virus' they will always conflict, in my experience the Avast and Malwarebytes work very well togather. Malwarebytes will get rid of most of the virus' but avast will clean it all the way up after malwarebytes gets done. As far as norton i wont even go there

Avira is a decent anti virus but ive had a few problems with it also. It seems like it gives alot of Fake information, biggest problem is it usually detects cd as a threat. Also some people find the Avira advertisements are pretty annoying.

Avg 9.0 was very good and almost bullet proof but when they went to this Avg 2011 they just turned it into a big resoarce hog.

You really cant go wrong with any of the anti virus' but i still recommend Avast.

Have a good one

Yea thats a good time frame, i would scan more with malwarebytes than Avast. But whateva you want to do. Avast does a real good job on the quick scan. Once avast is downloaded be sure to Register it so it will be good for a year. If i were you i would run a Full scan with malwarebytes then run a full scan on avast. After that then just stick with the quick scan maybe once every week or two.
