I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm gonna say he works at a Land Rover dealer.

Looks like the OP will have plenty of job security doing warranty work, as long as RR stays in business.

FWIW, quality might improve considerably when Tata (the Indian company that bought Rover from Ford) completes their new plant in China.

I was kind of half hoping to come into this thread and see a Range Rover Sport halfway off a lift and the engine smashed on the ground or something ridiculous. But this is pretty good too! Good job not taking off the entire body, way to show Land Rover up.

It's like a grown-ups puzzle.

I'm not afraid to wrench on stuff, but that looks daunting. Looks like you gotter' cased though.

I know.

The block 'cast out of peanut butter' reference is to the pourous block material, which you said was the problem.

FWIW, back in the day, Rover bought the 215 cubic inch aluminum block V8 from Buick. Buick kept the same design, but cast it in stronger (but heavier) iron.

all aluminum is porous, just a matter of to what degree.

There is a high pressure oil feed line at the back of the block. I forget the specs on the line, but its something like 100psi :o

I was toying with the idea of getting a Range Rover HSE. I have heard horror stories of old, and even more with the new. But still, they are so damn beautiful.

But after seeing this (and I realize this is a Sport model) . . . I think I'll pass.

You gonna get a bonus for finding a better way? I would think you should, probably save the company big bucks over all!

This is a joke, right? The words Vehicle quality, India and China do not belong in the same sentence.

Well, I don't think they are moving the operation to a brand new factory in China to build them worse, do you?

If you think Chinese and Indians are incapable of making cars as well as Americans or English, you need to remember we used to say the same thing about the Japanese less than 40 years ago.
