Texting while driving
Hey guys,
I'm doing a Rogerian essay on texting while driving. I'm looking for pros/cons of it. Cons are easy: accidents, raised insurance, tickets, etc. But I'm looking for pros. Scientific studies a plus since I need to claim my sources. Anyone recall reading an article recently? Google is turning up blogs and opinions.

More cons: death (suicide).......maybe a pro...
Pros are me pointing and laughing watching someone get into a wreck while doing it for being stupid. Natural Selection.

There are pros...that are greatly outweighed by cons...it's really no different than looking at your H/U to find a song...or turning around to give Johnny the stink eye for stealing Sally's candy...
Don't get the wrong impression, i don't feel texting while driving is by any means a safe thing to do

Another Pro (at least in the one town I lived in):
If you were caught texting while driving, you got a free "disco light show" from the local police, followed by a traffic stop by said officer, and a free ticket to an appointment with the Justice of the Peace to pay a fine for either Careless or Wreckless Driving, depending on your and the officer's attitude. As a free additional bonus, if there was anyone else in the car, a Wreckless Endangerment charge could be added, again depending on your attitude.
Source: Many obnoxious drivers in this town who received these tickets, and had to show up for there appointment with the judge.

ha idk the pros are really just the same as text messaging anywhere else. you can send out mass messages, have conversations with someone without everyone around you knowing what you're saying, its alot less distracting than talking on the phone or fooling with some hands free phone thing, you can still listen to music or whatever you're doing in the car without the other person having to hear it. there really aren't any major pros but those are just some of the little things i could thing of.
It is depending upon the person...it's no more distracting than looking at a head unit to pick a song, and if you text often you shouldn't need to look at your phone to type a message anyways, only to read one, which isn't that distracting...it's these kids that just get their license and don't know how to drive a vehicle without a phone in their hand, let alone with one.
I'm not saying texting while driving is a good thing, I'm just saying that there are a lot of things people do while in a vehicle that are just as distracting, if not more.

Ill probably be burned at the stake for saying this, but id rather text while driving versus talking on the phone. I suppose after four years of this, you become pretty good at it. I can text without looking at my phone, its just something that some people can do, and something some people cant. Most of the time when i text is at stoplights or on the open highway...not driving around town.
But to the OP, there are no pros to texting while driving...id choose a different topic.

Very well put Z. Its just like anything else, you do it enough and adapt to it and use common sense to make the best of whatever it is your doing whether it be texting and driving or rubbing your stomach and patting your head...
that's just some lame dramatization. the girl in that video is barely even holding the steering wheel and doesn't even look at the road for 13+ seconds, sorry but noone just doesn't look up even for a glance in 13+ seconds of driving in the real world. if you do then you deserve to have a wreck.
