Calling All Fat Bastards - V2.0

It seems there are a couple more fat bastards floating around who are looking to get (back) into shape... Let's make this the place where we can talk about our goals and more importantly, what we're doing to meet them. It never hurts to be accountable to someone either.

I've been half-assed trying to work out for the past 2 years really. I'll get into a good rhythm, then have to travel for work for a few weeks and that usually kills my workout schedule. I'll be 30 in August and my goal is to weigh in at about 155-160 at around 15% body fat. I'm only 5'7 and tip the scales at about 170 so, I think my goal is very achievable.

My plan consists of ditching regular sodas for diet soda or just plain water, sugar-free Red Bulls instead of regular, and just getting back to basic healthy eating. Workouts will consist of 30-45min strength training sessions 3 days a week and 2 days of moderate cardio work.

Who else out there is looking to be healthier next year?

I have been losing weight and feeling better, just by changing my diet. I have been a junk food eater and sweets eater all my life. I'm 6'2" and was up to 235, with most of the increase in my waist. For the last month, or so, I have eliminated desserts and candy(used to keep a bag or two in my desk) and been eating fruit and nuts. I tend to get hungry sooner now, but have some walnuts, almonds, peanuts or cashews or an apple or pear rather than candy. No desserts after meals. I am at 217 and it has all come off my gut. My knees do not bother me near as much.

This does not mean that I won't have some pecan pie during the holidays! LOL

6' 245lb was about 254 two weeks ago so far i have cut down on sweets, cut down on beer(dang) and started eating more veggies and lean cut meats (chicken, fish, pork). Im hoping to be down to about 220 by New Years which at this point doesnt seem out of reach. I was down to 195 before i went to college almost 3 years ago so hopefully by next summer i can be back down there again. Right now im at the gym 3-4 times a week with at least 20 minutes of cardio per workout. Good luck guys

I've been slacking real bad lately, too. On top of taking care of a dog now and working 30+/wk, this has been a really rough semester. It's so hard to find time to workout like I used to. I've gained a lot of weight, so maybe this thread is enough to kick me back into it. My plan is to get back into things seriously once finals are over. This has been my hardest semester by far, and my body is showing it.

On the plus side, any little bit of acne I'd usually get on my back or anywhere has been non-existent.

Congrats Blue! But don't forget a few to go with that pie!

It's amazing what a little change in diet can do. My father is ~67 years old and has been in pretty good health his whole life. Last year (maybe early this year, I don't remember) he went in for his physical and his cholesterol was pretty high, the highest it's ever been for him. Instead of popping Lipitor or something similar, he decided to quit eating chips. Now instead of reaching for a bag of Lays or can of Pringles, he'll have an apple or some granola if he still feels the need for something crunchy.

His last visit to the doctors showed a significant drop in his cholesterol readings. Good stuff!

Im an ex gymnast-14 years and ex soccer player-9 years so I used to be in shape and muscled in hs. When I stopped the sports the weight started. At my fitest I was around 215 (5'10"s) Now Im looking at 240 all around the waist. So since my gf has been loosing some weight I figured I better do it too so Im half way decent looking for her when she gets back.

Ive cut back alot on beer and soda. Starting to be smarter about the things I buy at the grocery store and starting to cook more instead of grabbing fast food every now and then. Started seriously lifting weights again and doing cardio 3-4 times a week. Ive lost 5lbs in two weeks just from that and am looking to loose 10 by January(holidays) more after eating returns to normal.

I make no secret of it, I am not in my prime, but I am getting there, I still have a long way to go.

I am 6' and 311 lbs currently, down from a high of 358. I got this way due to poor choices, and dealing improperly with a lousy first marriage.

I lost 170 lbs of worthless weight nearly 6 years ago now that kicked off a renewed interest in health and fitness.

My current regimen includes.

Diet. I am on Weight Watchers core plan, and USUALLY watch what I am very closely. Aside from drinking way too much soda, I was never a big junk food junkie, but I did tend to go for way too much comfort foods. I have gotten pretty good at making smart replacements.

Excersize. I walk my dog daily, for at least a half hour before, and after work. That isn't enough though. I am also doing Tae Bo with my lovely bride (the wife I should have had in the first place!) 3x a week. In all honesty, when I can handle it. I also do a LOT of physical labor around the house, not piddly crap, but I am actively remodeling the house, replacing the fencing, renovating landscaping etc... Solo. I am building cabinets, custom built ins, etc... I typically get about 16 hours a week of HARD physical labor in.

Medical. I am working with the Dr to determine WHY the diet and exercise over the past several years have not gone further to providing the results I want. I have been recently referred to a specialist / endocrinologist to see if there is anything they can do to help.

Anyone that knows anything about Weight Watchers Core plan, I am on 44 pts / daily, and typically stay around 32, which I understand is a problem.

I need to get breakfast on a more regular basis...

My goal is to get back to a muscular 230lbs (32" waist). I am not looking to be in the shape I was in when I was 16, but I WOULD like to be able to pick up my backpack when the 4x4 trail ends, and see where the foot trail leads...

6' 245lbs. Gotta bet with a buddy. 30lbs for $30. (Which one loses thirty first) My current job has me traveling some and grabbing what I can on the go. When I started I was 203lbs (2 1/2years ago) Couple that with the stress of school and being a new dad. I've switched to Diet Coke and I wanna be OFF of it by New Years. I wanna work out but as someone stated above, you get in a rhythm and I am easily knocked off.

I too walk morning and night, plus do a lot of yard work. Maintain an acre yard, with lots of trees. Have for years. It was not until I cut out a lot of sugar that I started losing.

For you guys who drink soft drinks and beer. I cut both of those out of my diet for a few months and lost right around 25 pounds over the course of 5ish months. My eating habits weren't/aren't that great but not drinking soft drinks and working out hard has kept my weight down. I'm just over 6' and currently weigh 208ish, depending on what I ate and drank that day. I'd like to get down to 198-200 by the time my season starts back up in the spring. If I can cut down to that weight I should be looking pretty good, right now I've got pretty good size but need to work on my BF ratio.

Right now I'm working out 4 days a week doing legs, tri's and chest, off day, then legs followed by biceps and lats on fridays. I try run just over 2 miles after working out each day but that can be a little hard on the leg days.

Ugh. 6'3 290ish. I've recently started eating smaller amounts more frequently and avoid eating anything at night. I love soda and ice tea and I hate diet drinks and water so that sucks. What really sucks is I gained about 15 pounds last winter during lay-off and have probably all but worked it off through the corse of the year now just in time for lay off again. Going to try and spend a good portion of my free time this winter working out. That's the plan anyway.

wheres the snicker smiley? I hit 180 a couple months ago, it shocked me cause out of high school i was 125#, being 5'6 and 22 years old with a daughter on my own that struck me as too much weight. i'm down to 160 now by eating more fruits and nuts, sandwiches for snacks etc, with a few light exercises a week. i mean i get plenty of walking in at work, constantly working on something in the plant or outside it.

Well, I've kind of gone down hill the past couple months. Two years ago I went from 245lbs down to 175lbs from working out more, eating less and eating healthier from Jan 20th to June 20th. Since then I've done numerous triathlons and kept a pretty healthy weight of around 180 lbs (I'm 6'2"). This past semester, I've been incredibly buisy with school (junior in mechanical engineering) so I've mainly been eating fast food for supper since I dont feel like putting the effort into cooking. I've also been drinking a good amount of beer and vodka at night since a buzz helps me study and lowers my anxiety from doing 4-8 straight hours of studying. All of this has led to me packing on more than a couple pounds getting me up to about 190 lbs. Not a big weight change, but what bothers me is that alot of my muscle has changed to fat.

So, come January, I will be right with all of you trying to once again get my life on a healthier track. I have both much easier classes and better class times. I am also planning on doing a half-ironman in May, so that give me something to work for. I will be saying hello to 6 workouts a week, and hope to be around 170 lbs by the time I do my triathlon.
