Day 1:
Well I made it to the gym! Woohoo Did about 40 minutes of weights including internal shoulder rotations, bench press, dumbbell chest press, chest flies, dips and tricep pull downs.

After working out my scale said 167.0 pounds with approximately 40.5 pounds of body fat. That puts me at around 24% BF. Based on that I think a reasonable goal would be to drop 10 pounds of BF, putting me around 18%.

Tomorrow I'm planning on a +/- 2 mile morning jog with the dog around the neighborhood, then on Wednesday it's back to the gym for a lower body workout.

I'm also going to get back into tracking what I eat. The iPhone has a cool little app called "Lose It!". It has a database of nutritional data from various ingredients to restaurants and brand name foods. You just enter in what you eat, and how much, and it will track your calorie intake. It also tracks how much fat, carbs and proteins you've had, as well as some vitamins and minerals. If the food you've eaten isn't in their database, you can enter in information off the label into the program and save it as a "custom food". But wait, there's more! It has the same setup for exercises so you can log your workouts. It'll account for calories burned, so if you run 10 miles one day, you can afford to eat more food, and still be within your calorie goal. You enter your current weight, goals and time frame, and it will give you a target calorie intake to reach that goal. My goal is to lose 1 pound per week, and it tells me I should have a intake balance of 1,917 calories.

Oh yeah, the wife and I also the dog to a State Park about 35 min away and did a 4.1 mile hike along the Eno River on Sunday. That was a pretty decent workout and you can't beat hiking along the river on a sunny, 70 degree day, at the end of November!

How are y'all doing?

I am in the same boat as you. I belong to a gym, but my company travel keeps me out of town so much, it's hard to get and stay on a steady regime. When i am in town, i usually got to the gym 4-5x a week. Do a mix of cardio and low rep/heavy weight lifting, squats, bench press, upper/lower body. Right now, i weigh about 184 lbs, 5'-8". My waist is about a size 33". I am getting married late next year, maybe September/November. I would like to lose about 4" off my waist. I really am not too concerned with my weight, just where the weight is. I am home from travel for two months, so i'll see what kind of progress i can make. Cutting out soda again will be a big help. I moved a year ago from Florida to Knoxville, at the time i was working out twice a day.. i weighed 163. I could be happy at 170 i think.... just takes doing. I am 36 by the way...

Well I am not going to be starting for a while. Yesterday I was diagnosed with severe bronch-itis (**** in the word filter?), have been coughing for over 3 weeks now. They did a chest x-ray and took blood to rule out pneumonia. Got a steroid shot and I've been prescribed Levaquin antibiotic, an asthma inhaler, and a codeine cough medicine. Bloodwork came back good, and I have normal blood pressure even with me being about 100 pounds overweight. :o

One of the side effects of the Levaquin is the risk to tendon rupture, primarily the Achilles tendon. Scary stuff. There's already lawsuits for this out there. Gotta take that risk seriously.

So, as a result I can't do any running or vigorous exercise at all for a long while. Maybe by new years I'll be able to start, and I'll limit myself to walking and riding the bike.

6'-2" 264 as of last night. Dropped the cokes and have been watching my portions for about 2 months now. My 38 pants are fitting better, belt can go one more notch and I no longer fill bloated all the time. Before the 264 weight in I was around 278 and that was about 3 months ago. I'm only trying to get down to around 230-240 to start with, just want the belly and chin gone. I'm big boned so I will never have a "skinny" look. Started doing 50 push ups a night about a week ago. I've tried going all out in the past and it only works for about a 2-4 weeks. Figure I would start easy and steady this time and progress to a more rough regimen as time goes. Good luck to all.

So I looked up a BMI calculator. My BMI is 30, the "sugested" healthy limit is 20 - 25. In order for me to acheive those numbers I would have to be in between 156lbs - 195lbs. I would look like a skeleton at that point...where do they come up with this stuff?

Its calling me obese at 31%. I dont really consider myself obese. Ive got a few extra pounds I wish I could lose but I also work out alot and have muscle mass that apparently isnt taken into consideration.

Day 3
I didn't do anything yesterday. I thought about going for a run, but it was cold and raining so I stayed in bed for a few extra minutes instead.

I did make it over to the gym this morning and did a 10 minute warmup on the stationary bike, followed by about 30 min of lifting. Today consisted of lat pull downs, 2 types of shoulder presses, bent over rows and bicep curls.

I usually don't eat breakfast, but working out in the AM makes me hungry!

Lucky! We had thanksgiving dinner at my parents place, so they got to keep all the leftovers. We're going to have a pre-Christmas dinner at our place for some friends a couple days before the real thing. I'm expecting plenty of leftovers from that!

Uh-oh, this thread's not going to get deleted now is it!

Sucks to hear that, but at least you've started down the road to recovery. No need to rush anything, just heal up right, then get to work.

BMI's can get kinda wacky if you're either really "small boned" or "big boned". They also don't really account for people who have lots of muscle mass like you said.

Hey you were right down the road from me then, I'm assuming you went to West Point? I just downloaded that app yesterday, starting with it today. Hoping to drop back down to 180 by the end of March. Good luck to everyone!
