I was working fast food for the past few years and decided to quit since it was interfering with my studies. So I've been getting overdraft letters pretty lately here. It sucks. Luckily my #2 door just opened up and I am helping start a business with a friend doing UHF/VHF radios for the public service industry. I cannot wait to fill up my truck for the first time in 5 months

I'm a newly licensed 3rd mate of unlimited tonnage in the US Merchant Marine. I graduate from Texas A&M Galveston in December where I'm majoring in Maritime Transportation and minoring in Maritime Administration. I plan on going into the field of dynamic positioning and becoming a DP operator.

from wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_positioning

Dynamic positioning (DP) is a computer controlled system to automatically maintain a vessel's position and heading by using its own propellers and thrusters. Position reference sensors, combined with wind sensors, motion sensors and gyro compasses, provide information to the computer pertaining to the vessel's position and the magnitude and direction of environmental forces affecting its position. Examples of vessel types that employ DP include, but are not limited to, ships and semi-submersible Mobile Offshore Drilling Units (MODU) and Oceanographic Research Vessels.

The DP operator (DPO) judges whether there is enough redundancy available at any given moment of the operation.

To qualify as a DP operator the following path should be followed:
-a DP Induction course (I've already completed this on my own dime..hopefully it helps when looking for a job)
-a minimum of 30 days seagoing DP familiarisation
-a DP Advanced course
-a minimum of 180 days watchkeeping on a DP ship
-a statement of suitability by the master of a DP ship

I'm an Industrial Engineer for an energy company. Just turned 27. I will be a Section or Longwall Supervisor in an underground coal mine soon. The pay is great, but the schedule is hectic.

I'm a 911 dispatcher (shift supervisor) full time.
i also work part time at another neighboring 911 center.
volunteer firefighter. Public service seems to be the only thing i know. Eventually i would like to go through the local law enforcement academy, fire academy, and get my EMT license. Then go back to school and obtain an MBA, so i can become a 911 director/asst. director.
