I would probably never get you or anyone else to switch to a Mac. It's not my intention. But I will say, even being moderately overpriced, they are worth it. To me, it's all relative.

Having used pc's as long as I have making the switch would be hard. I have spent so much time learning how to fix any problems myself, and learning shortcuts and the ins and outs of windows that switching to something else is really out of the question. Now if I knew very little about pc's or was just getting started I would be very tempted by mac, I think there are 3 main reason that apple isn't taking more business from new users is, 1 most people first experience with computers is their parents computer and those are 99% windows. So they learn how to run it and then don't want to change. 2 the inital cost, most peoples first computer is very cheap I would say $400 to $800, and apple is lacking in this catigory. Base model to base model apple for some reason won't compete. 3 mac's are not as readily available, you can buy a pc nearly everywhere even walmart is selling computers now.

That mac mini is a joke and always has been in my eyes. There is no reason Apple couldn't install a top notch graphic card in an iMac and sell it as a gaming/video & photo editing/web surfing computer. That's what a majority of people are buying computers to do with them in the first place. They provide all the software with the computer. They use the same processors as PCs so speed isn't the issue. I've never understood it either but then again I'm not in charge of Apple marketing.

Another thing about Apple. I've read articles on big corporations wanting to switch their whole operations over to Macs. But Apple doesn't seem interested at all in hiring the manpower it would take to dedicate itself to do this. I'm talking manpower for support.

I believe this guy will be the 2nd largest customer Apple has behind Google. Home Depot also has to be in there somewhere. Not sure how many Macs they use, though.

Here's an excellent article about Macs in the corporate world and how Apple, I think, is missing out on expanding their market share quickly.

It seems to me that they should be pushing their computers anywhere they can, there are a bunch of people that would probably be happier with a mac than they would a pc. Plus there is the "cool" factor, lots of people see mac's as cool, and they are sort of a status symbol. I still think they should come up with an entry model computer to compete with pc's in the $500 range, this would let a whole new wave of people experience mac's.

Birddog and Mxracer,

I have been following these posts, and have really learned a bit (mostly how much I really don't know about computers). I have seen this discussion go full circle. I honestly thought one or both of you would sling a bunch of slander and name calling. I'm so pleased with the direction it took. You are prime examples of how to carry on a spirited debate without getting too far below the line of decent comments.

Thank you sir.

To tell you the truth I thought it was going to turn out that way for a little while. Mxracer isn't a bad guy, he just is wrong with his choice of computers.

More people need to conduct themselves online as they would face to face.

Thanks for the debate birddog. I learned quite a bit about PCs during this exchange!
