Can you explain what specifically you love about it?

I've never used a Macbook, and I couldn't justify the price on my own. I'm not biased towards PCs, or hate Macs or anything like that, I'm just curious.

On a separate but related note, can anyone explain why they cost so much more than a PC?

Macbook Pro
15-inch: 2.53GHz
Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB Memory
250GB hard drive
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics
$1,699.00

vs.

HP - Model G60-445DX
16-inch 2.2GHz
AMD Turion™ X2
3GB DDR2 Memory
320GB hard drive
NVIDIA GeForce 8200M graphics
$499.99

To those seem to be fairly comparable computers. Yes the Mac's processor is about 13% faster, it has an extra gig of memory and the video card is a step up from the PC's. On the other hand, the PC has a larger screen and more hard drive space. Based on that, I have a tough time believing the Mac is really worth $1,200 more. What am I missing?

I'm not a mac fan. PC all the way. The only thing I like about macs are little things like the bottom tool bar, which I have on my windows. It's called rocketdock.

I just got my macbook pro 2 days ago. I love it. I got the 15" screen. The touch pad is sweet. 1 finger selects. 2 fingers scroll. 3 fingers sideways go back or foward. 4 fingers up hides all windows. 4 fingers down shows all windows in expose. I love it way more than my Hp laptop already.

haha man you weren't kidding in that message, I read it before I came in here.

Ive always been a PC guy, and never thought id buy a mac. Then vista came out. I bought my lady a laptop with vista on it and its givin me nothing but problems.

Heres a couple of reasons I bought the mac:
Clean, thin, beautiful laptop (aesthetics are big to me)
Iphoto and Imovie: I got to play with these two bad lads at work with some of the displays, the tagging in the iphoto is awesome and the editing in imovie is pretty easy

After a day of playing with it, one thing thats noticeable to me that i use ieverday is how fast it connects to the internet. My laptop took about 30 seconds, my girls takes about a minute. the mac is instantaneous.

As of now the only two things i miss about my PC are internet explorer (prob because its all ive ever used to surf the web) and the close/minimize on the left side instead of the right side like on the mac.

So please, keep the bickering to yourselves....and out of my thread.

The ram is DDR3 instead of DDR2 on the windows. It is much faster. The processors run much cooler and saves battery life. It has a dedicated graphics card as well. It is actually worth 1200? No. But would i still recommend it? Hell yes.

Forgot to mention the touchpad...this thing is stellar! took me a few hours to realized that two finger click was like a right click.

Oh yeah, and if ya'll think I payed $1700 for this bad lad...well, hehe

i got mine last week. i upagraded from a regular white macbook. i love the pro. the battery life on this one is so much better.

since you are knew to macs you should probably find a mac forums. there are tons of cool programs you can get for free. if i was you, i would google Handbrake. it lets you rip dvds to your hard drive.

I have a MacBook Pro, the new model.

Go to Apple.com and go to downloads, there are a trillion different things you can download. Also check out the widgets, I use them to monitor my stocks, weather, and computer systems. You can get to them in about a tenth of a second and they update automatically anywhere from .5 to 5 seconds.

Learn to use the tracpad, the command button, also if you want to use windows... you can do it on your mac. Just read up 'how to'

I was a PC guy all my life and thought Mac's were gay and useless, that changed around Christmas last year

To each his own. I don't fault anyone for buying a PC.

However, my wife never liked computers and found them hard to use. i bought this Mac book Pro, now she does e mail, photos, and music and much more. It is a much friendlier than PC,s. We will never go back to PC's on a personal level. As for work, we are stuck with PC's, they gave me a laptop and a desktop.

I was a Windows fanatic at home and at work from 3.1 through Me. When my wife (who is a graphic designer) and I needed one computer to replace her old Mac, and my broken down Gateway, we of course settled on the Mac. I was not sure for a time. And OS 9 in hindsight especially was pretty lame. But that was 8 years ago, and frankly I wouldn't buy a Windows based PC now if my life depended on it. Now running an 8 core Mac Pro with 16 gigs memory, an older G5 dual 1.8 with 8 gigs, a 15" Macbook Pro, and the old reliable but sorta slow 12" Powerbook.

Anyway, Windows XP and Vista will now run on the Mac at native speeds or better, so why not have the best of both worlds and be virtually virus free for the foreseeable future? The Mac in the long and the short run is EASILY worth the extra cost upfront. And another thing that needs to be said is that Microsoft has never really been, and is still not all that interested in the end user; the average personal home PC user. Apple has always been all about the end user, and that's a big damn important difference.

I have a 15" MBP, it's one of the older one's before the new style that just came out, and I would say this hands down beats my dell laptop..

As for mac's getting a virus.. NEVER seen it happen.. My friend is on a dell and he goes to website's and gets them all the time.. I go on the same website and NOTHING..

Give it some time you will get used to it... The best thing about a mac is IT ALL WORKS TOGETHER.. All the software you can buy for a mac never conflicts with any other programs like on a PC. Up until XP or Vista ( which was horrible) everytime you plugged in a USB printer or scanner, what would the first thing you would have to do, you would have to install an device driver for it.. And after you install that it would work but it wold mess something else up..

GO ahead and plug your printer into your mac and see what happens.. NO DRIVERS to install NO NOTHING. Just plug it in and your good..

Not only does it recognize a printer instantly, but it shows a little picture of it, lol.

congrats man. Ive got a MacBook Pro too. Ive just had a bad history with PC's so my brother recommended a Mac and i dont think ill ever go back. Ive had a few Dells, and one HP and they always seemed to get viruses. They didnt seem to run as well and i like the Apple OS better. I use a PC at work and still dont like it. Im not a computer guy by any means so im not saying one is better then the other, just from my experiences. Anyways, good luck with it, ive had Macs for the past 5 years and i still learn something new everytime i open it up
