deereman give some details. sounds like USAF 3E2 heavy equipment operator, that is my job. but i have worked with the seebees out of Mississippi and Okinawa, the marine HE guys in Kuwait and Iraq and with/for the Army 81J's (i think, they merged a few jobs lately) in Iraq and Afghanistan. all have different quirks about their job but basically the same. we start out at the same technical school anyway. good ole ft lostinthawoods, MO. a very good friend of mine is an instructor there now.

Well either I want to operate or design. Can't decide.. But operating is in my blood. What made you go to the air force?? Its alot to take in. I guess you would be pretty much doing the same thing for each branch just different name.

You start out with no say about anything once you sign on the dotted line. Make sure any promises given to you about schools or rate of advancement are in writing. If you have prior training/qualifications in the field you are going to serve in, sometimes it qualifies you for accelerated advancement or special consideration.
Also if you finish at/ on in the top of anything training related you may get special consideration (duty stations/schools). Always take opportunities for more or special schooling/training job related or not.
Always be aggressive at being the first or the best.
Always stay out of any trouble.
It will help you evaluations which will help your advancement which helps increase your pay quicker.

Any promises, written or otherwise, can always be overridden. It's called "needs of the service". If it ain't in the contract you sign, you don't have a choice.

Is there some kind of strange/trick way to score well on the asvab? Or is it pretty straight forward, just study for it..?

Asvab is a pretty easy test. As long as you can remember your high school education, you will be fine. If it has been awhile since you did some fractions, etc.. I would suggest you pick up one of those asvab books. From what I understand they are usually dead on with the type of questions. They also teach you how to do the problems.

The Marines, Navy, and even the Army will not take you if you have pins in your ankle. First one in my family not to serve. I guess it wasn't in the cards for me for some reason

Thanks for the 411 guys. Went and bought the study guide the other day. Its been 7 years since I was in school and lost alot of it. (NOT GOOD) Ever since I thought about going in and getting serious, work has picked back up and now I'm behind. Just ready to get out of this rut and small town. Maybe the old girl i'm talking to won't want to get serious before i go if i go. That would be my luck.
It sounds like the army and navy are the only ones who have dozers, I'm I wrong??
