I'm off to begin my first camping trip!

So I'm pretty phyced. I'm about to go to sleep and wake up in a few hours and begin my first camping trip without my parents. This may not be a big deal to most of ya, but I'm a senior in HS and so me and my friends able to travel across the whole state with the added satisfaction that my dad trusts me with his camper really has got me so excited. For the past 12 years I'd always ride in the back and last year he'd let me drive some times. But now I'm on my own and free from parents for the next three days.

If you were wondering, its me and my 4 buddies traveling 200 miles to Lakeland, FL for the annual Sun 'N Fun fly-in. Its going to be awesome. Not only is the actual airshow going to rock, but the trip getting there is half of the fun for me. What can I say? I just love to drive...

See you guys Monday!

-Alex

P.S: We might have a laptop and WiFi at our campground, so I might drop in and post some pics for you guys. See ya and wish me safe driving!

Thats not camping....

When I go camping, it takes a knowledgable off-roader to get there.

Just busting ya, have a blast and do take pics!!

Well this is a 3-day event, so of course me and my airplane nut friends will be taking LOTS of pics so we need a computer to clear the cards so we have more space for more pics.

ive got the alarm clock set for 5 am (EST) and its 11:40 right now, but im too darn excited to go to sleep. bad thing is that when i do and its time to wake up, im going to be soo dang groggy.

anyone know of any tips for extended driving? i know most basics, but just wondering what you more experienced fellows have learned. i just put on a pair of those 2" convex mirrors to see my blind spot.

here's the rig right now, all ready and waiting for me:

full electric brakes, water tank (emptied), GPS, 30amp hookup, with bikes and xbox 360 ready to go

well its been up the Appalachian mountains about 7 times and we've towed it to maine 3 of those times. it came from the dealer with a trans cooler and although its not a powerhouse, but is easily within the towing capacity:

1998 F-150 | 4.2L V6 | 3.55 non-LS | Extended Cab | Towing: 3,400 lbs

ive got her loaded to a max of 2,200 lbs right now

200 miles isnt really an extended trip. Going across the state of Florida and going across texas are pretty different though, lol. This year my dad really started trusting me more too. Ive been able to take the polaris ranger out, and this year he let me start taking along guns. And i could take the jetski's but only to the local little lake. Now he lets me take them out with my friends. Although im the only one that gets to drive it so one stays on the trailer.

Anyways, drive safe and have fun.

200 miles isent that far, should be a easy trip.

Take wide turns, stay in your right lane, and you and only you drive.

Otherwise have fun!

I dident see girls on that check list, those should be added. and only removed from the luggage at night.

200 miles, thats 3 hours of driving, definitely not a long trip. to me a long drive is 10+ hours of non stop driving.

have fun, and dont drink and drive.

Be sure to drink once you've arrived though!

Have fun!

Have fun!! One of my techs will be there but without the plane this year. From everything I've heard you should have a good time. Wear the sunscreen...it's supposed to be beautiful!

Your dad has a lot of confidence in you, taking his camper.

I remember the first trip my dad let me take.
Everything fit in a bandana tied up nicely with a stick thru it.
I recall one of my shoes had a hole in it.

He didn't burden me with a bunch of instruction.
Just waved and said, "Don't come back."

raoul,

i think that may have been an example of tough love from your dad.

if he really wanted you gone, he would have given you shoes with a hole through each one. that would have insured you walked in a straihgt line, and never came back.

see'in how there was just a hole in one shoe, i would suspect he knew you'd circle back around sooner or later.

If I knew all that, I wouldn't have hid behind the garage for three days.
