Are Mac's Worth It?
Wow do you miss the point.
Of course Renderman will run on cheap-**** desktops. However, that is for tiny shops or single professionals. Hmmmm, I'm at Pixar... do I use my cheap-**** $10K Power Mac with 8 cores or that bad-**** million dollar 1000+ core supercomputer in the back room?
Pixar movies are computed on Linux/Intel supercomputers. Not Macs. Period. Front end work workstations maybe Macs, but you can shove any dumb terminal up there when the sever is doing all the work. Macs are not special.
I also wonder if with the release last year of v14 of the Renderman Server product if Pixar themselves moved to Windows HPC Server 2008 ... that would be awesome.

They would be stupid to NOT start using Windows Servers. 64-bit. Trump.
You guys need to cool it. It is stupid to keep arguing such a subject. Obviously, there is a market for both products or they could not both exist.

see i didnt put the ' between the n and t

and i never said pc's didn't i just said it was a nice feature my mac has that my previous pc didn't. and i never said a mac was better than a pc i just like it better, personal preference
There is market for any POS product. Even POS sells. Not that a mac is a POS. In fact, its not. It's just WAY overpriced, overhyped, and underwhelming to use.

love trucks, i think their worth the money.
for graduation me and my sister both got 2k for computer, printer, and all software, and other computer related supplies we needed for college.
i spent right over $2k for a fully loaded mac book, a few pieces of software, printer, and a 3 year warranty and i got a free ipod touch
my sister spent about the same maybe $100 less, got a printer, and re-used a piece of microsoft office we already had. she did get a 17" computer, which is way to big for carrying around IMO, she now has a new computer after 2 years because the computer wouldn't function. i think she spent $800 or $900 on her new computer and its pretty nice for what it is.
with the ipod touch and printer which were free i got about $400 worth of free stuff that i could have sold and been at about the same price as a pc.
my parents i think will be buying a mac desktop soon bc their desktop doesn't work at all, then we have 2 dell laptops just laying around the house, both i wont use because they are so slow and freeze up so often and have nearly no un needed software slowing it down.
it just depends i thought it was worth the extra money, but some people won't its just your preference. you can get a basic macbook for $999 which isn't to bad, my friend has it and it has no complaints and loves it over his pc. i would atleast look into a mac and go play on one at the store or use a friends to see how you like it.

Wow, and I thought my dad's gift, a Cross pen and pencil set, was great.
Times, they are a changin'.
