Some good thoughts, sweetpea. You got to hand it to teachers. They deal every day with results of kids acting out what they see on TV.

Now get back to the game, sweetpea (LOL). Intermission's almost over and the Senators are going to rule!

The scary thing about professional wrestling is the effect it has, not only on children, but on adults too.

Talk to the emergency room folks and there are a number of injured adults and children coming in who got hurt trying to imitate their favorite wrestlers.

It may be fake, but the injuries fans are receiving are not.

BTW, I used to watch wrestling back in the 60s and 70s, but no more. It's not the same. hehe... maybe as far as wrestling goes, I grew up.

Wrestling is not what it was 10 or 20 years ago. It is much more violent and graphic today. Seems as it gets more violent and graphic they have to continue to make it more violent and graphic to satisfy the appetite of those who need continued escallation of the violence - otherwise, if they do not come up with something more violent and graphic, people will get bored and the ratings will drop (very true). Same thing is happening with most TV programming. More shock value stimulation is needed to maintain interest. Says something bad about our society. We need to get back to living more in the real world and avoiding this mindless escapism. Some is good, but today's technology has allowed us to overdose on such entertainment. A good example is when I was a kid we didn't have video games - we had to use the toys we had and be creative (use our minds) in playing. Too many of the kids today have no idea what creative or using their minds is. Today's technology has allowed them not to think and use their minds, but they can play video games, even though they have trouble reading and comprehending. Back to the original subject - it seems today that too many of us need more and more to stimulate us and keep us interested - being it wrestling or most forms of entertainment. I think we, as a society, need to reconsider some of the choices we have made. Pro wrestling is about nothing but money. If those guys could make as much money doing something else, do you think they would continue to dress up and act like fools? As long as people continue to watch it, it will be around. I just don't watch it.

Wink

Indigo,

Austin 3:16 is a sayin brought up by Stone Cold Steve Austin. It all started 4 years ago at Wrestle Mania when he was wrestling Jake the Snake Roberts. Roberts was supposed to be a religious wrestler, who was always talking about Bible verses. Well after Austin beat him, the announcer interviewed him. Austin had this to say: "You thump your Bibles and talk about your John 3:16, well Austin 3:16 means I just whipped your a$$". That's how it all came about. And that shirt that they came out with, Austin 3:16, has become the hottest sellin items in history.

Layin the Smack Down is a reference started by the Rock. He says it just before he fights somebody, as in: I'm gonna lay the Smackdown on your candya$$.

Now ya know. By the way, I'm not a sick boy, just love to be entertained, and that's what WWF wrestling does for me.

They got into it for a reason, they enjoy it. To some, it's a fun job, and would rather do nothin else. Gee, to be famous, and do something you really like? Gee, how terrible. I would love to do that.

By the way, next chance to see wrestling is Thursday night on UPN at 7:00 Central, come on, tune in for just a minute

Exclamation

I could think of an even worse influence on children and that is Rap Music. This inner city "music" glorifies law breaking, drugs, and real violence. The rappers look and sound like inmates from federal prison. Pro wrestlers look obviously fake and behave phoney and most children taught well enough by their parents should pick this up. I like watching the Pros and I remember when Vince McMahon was just a young announcer in the 70s.

I ask myself, with all the choices of stuff to do with our kids, why sit there in front of the tube or pay $$$ at an arena and watch people assault each other with weapons and talk trash like bozos?

Why not build things in the garage or basement, go fishing and camping, tinker with trucks and old cars, plant a garden and watch the wonders of nature (I've got jackrabbits around my house - my kids love watching them), go biking, glue toy models together and paint them up, etc., etc., etc.

For us grown folks too, what's in wrestling that is positive and good? Or in some music? Or in some video games?

If I've learned anything from experience, it's that, whatever you're doing, you're either making things better or your you're making them worse. It's all about choices and everything counts. Good or bad, whichever it is, it builds up inside you. That's what I've found.

Cool

First off wrestling is now called sports ENTERTAINMENT. But the injuries are still real. Just ask Mick Foley, numerous concussions, broken arm, broken leg, missing an ear, burns, missing teeth, and the list goes on. Second of all sure wrestling is a soap opera for guys, but not "uneducated"
people as some said on an earlier post( I am a Ford Master technician and have graduated from college, and I love wrestling). If you don't like whats on t.v. then turn it off and read a book. In this country do what you like to do and don't try and tell others what they can and cannot do. As the Rock likes to say "know your role and shut your mouth" just kidding. P.S. Austin 3:16 was started as mudder said but it actualy happened at a pay per view called "in your house" take it easy everyone, I'll be in front of the t.v. for Raw is War in 19 hours and counting.

Fordfixer,

You are correct. Did you catch Backlash last night? It was great. Game over, we have a new WWF champion, the Rock. Tonight on Raw it's gonna be great, good to see the Rattlesnake back in action.
