Professional wrestling is sick, even criminal
Well - I was not going to get involved with this, but - here goes.
Be your own judge of what you eat, drink, watch, read ETC, ETC.
Tell me that the guys that sell stuff on infomecials are really that hyped up!!!
Tell me that a show is real funny - if it has a laugh track !!!
What really turns me off - is the pictures shown of some kids in 3rd world countrys with flies crawling over their eyeballs & snot runing down their cheeks & millions starving and you know, no matter what anyone does - millions will STILL starve to death & the pictures of floods - with the bloated bodies of people & animals all over the place - and you feel helpless !!!
The WWF violent ?? - too me it's the Saturday night funnies.
We have enough of Big Brother watching over us now - in everthing we do.
If you can't explain good & bad to your kids, maybe you should not be a parent.
Oh yeah - 18 Wheels of Justice - starring G. Gordon Liddy ???? - one of Nixons "handy men" ????
Well - at least we have a board like this - to blow of some steam - thank goodness for that.

Well, I've cooled off a bit and I figured out what makes me so mad about what I saw last night. It was the TNN time slot. To me, The Nashville Network knowingly exposes young kids to explicit violence that would never be allowed in a prime-time movie.
As do wrestling promoters who deliberately target kids, just like cigarette companies have been accused of (remember the Hulk Hogan "action figures"). There's just too much proof that young minds get shaped by whatever they see, good or bad, not to have some controls on certain stuff for kids if adults can't act responsibly.
Same as sex films. I think most people likely agree: Eighteen years of age or over, no problem. And if you want to watch sex flicks or wrestling with adult friends, I respect your right to do that. (In fact, Canada is way more open than the States and the government doesn't regulate sex films or magazines at all except for a minimum age at the theatres and a total ban on depicting violence or kid-sex.)
If there's something wrong or illegal when adults, whether they are parents or TV network execs, knowingly expose young kids to explicit sex, then why not explicit violence? To me, that's worse!
In my view, I don't think kids should be admitted to professional wrestling to watch people stomping each other with blood streaming down their faces and hitting each other with chairs. And parents who take their kids to see it should be ashamed of themselves. What are they thinking? Or are they thinking at all?
All of society loses when young people grow up lusting for violence and de-sensitized to its very real effects. IMHO.

I hate wrestling but I just don't watch it! On another hand try Brazilian Judo Ju-Jitsu, THIS is the real stuff. I'm taking some lessons and find this ***** very tuff. Just think you learn to break a wrist, an arm, a shoulder all at the same time. We have to pay for an insurance because lots of people loose teeth, get broken parts. The competitions are very real, in fact during our training we have to block or get a kick in the face
Now thats a Sport!!! (IMO) You don't use chairs or 2x4s to get your oppenent, you use skill and the oppenents momemtum to bring him down!
Swift as the wind
Quiet as the forest
Fierce as fire
Immovable as a mountain

I'm probably going to get blasted for this but here it goes. I teach elementary physical education. Anyone who thinks wrestling doesn't affect children should try to teach 700 children tanked up on WWF or Roller Jam. Sure...to our mature minds this stuff is only entertainment but to young immature minds it is a way of life. Sure...we had violent, shoot-em-up shows when I was a kid and I turned out all right (i think) but kids today are exposed to this stuff on a constant basis through television, news, and their enviroment. There seems to be no moralistic support. I think it is extremely irresponsible for a network to show this stuff during prime time hours and until recently they didn't. It's all about money and greed. They think: "Who cares if we screw up a few kids as long as we get paid!" I for one enjoy TNN but I wish they would stick to motorsports, outdoors, and country music and leave the wrestling to TBS and other networks that no one watches anyway. I'm not blasting anyone here because they like wrestling...I grew up with wrestling too...but it and many other forms of media and enviromental factors are warping the childrens' minds. Man...I sound like an old futty dutty don't I?

J.J. you sound like an intelligent human being to me, not a futty dutty. TNN broadcasts wrestling beginning at 8 p.m. It plays on Friday nights when a lot of young kids are parked in front of the TV by babysitters or by parents having a social life of their own.
I bet for most kids watching there's nobody there explaining that it is all a performance. I doubt they'd even understand the difference if it was explained because, hopefully, the kids haven't actually witnessed the real thing, meaning somebody being stompted or hit with chairs for real.
There's a serious abdication of responsibility here by somebody with respect to our children.

Well, I'm standing in Mudders corner!! My husband really likes Smackdown on Thursday nights, he's even gotten me to watch it a few times. I thought it was one of the sillyest "wresling" shows I'd ever seen. My whole family sits to watch it and all of us #1 know it's fake #2 know they don't hit each other #3 know that everything is set up beforehand We call it "mindless entertainment". My kids watch it too but I do insist that when my younger son is watching that my husband is watching too. Not just in the room, but watching with my son!!! My kids are learning that there's a difference between real and fake. Real hurts!!! We also teach our kids that people that get killed on some movies and then return on other movies that this is also fake. Kids need to be taught right from wrong and fake from real. Wresling is fake but my husband likes it. So we turn that into a teaching situation for our kids. Don't get me wrong, I do not think young kids should watch this type of program without their parents being with them to gauge how the kids are reacting to the fake violence. It's still a form of violence. As far as adults go: change the channel if you don't like it. And if you do watch it and kids are around them, then do explain and keep explaining, why it's not real.
OK...time for my .02. To start off with, I was on my high school and first year city college wrestling teams (135 lb. weight class AT THE TIME *LOL*), so I know what TRUE AAU and Greco-Roman wrestling is. So when I watch the so-called "wrestling" on TV, I just kinda giggle at it. I went to this thing called "Wrestlemania I" with a friend of mine in LA years ago (HE paid for the tickets). It was a spectacle all right to see Hulk Hogan flexing, but I was kinda bored with the whole thing and couldn't see the attraction. But that's just me. I used to watch Freddie Blassie and Mil Mascaros occasionally when I was a kid too, and I was just as bored with it as I was with Roller Derby.
Also, I have kids. And if there is something that I don't want them to watch, I change the channel or shut off the set. Period. If they don't like it, I tell them to do homework...and that usually ends the argument *grin* But let's not forget who is TRULY in control of what your kids watch. YOU...and NOT TNN!
And I'd also like to add, that while I am, at last check, all man, REAL men don't like to see fighting at all.
Having said that, I will also say that while "professional" wrestling is no more real than, say, Captain America, lots of people like it! So, let 'em watch it! Let 'em pay however much it costs to go see it. Look how much money people spent on Cabbage Patch dolls for crying out loud. I happen to like to listen to Howard Stern...lots of people find him offensive...fine! Change the freakin' station!! Go polish your truck! Have sex! Yell at your neighbor! Whatever!
Live and let live I think is the message here.

I think everyone that is mature enough knows that wrestling is fake and choreographed. But it is a tough job at times and can take a toll. I have told people many times that it takes a great athlete to do this stuff. So you really can't use the word fake. When a guy dies in the ring, that's not fake. When a guy gets dropped on his spine and gets paralized that's not fake. It takes a lot of traning and know how to do this. You should go read some of these guys bios to read the real story, you might have a different opinion on the whole matter. It's great entertainment to alot of people, just like Tina said, and I appreciate that Tina. But anyway, it's not leavin television any time soon, so on Monday night, Thursday night, and Sunday night I will be entertained. The whole fun of it is that it is like a male soap oprah, but damn it's fun to watch. Rivalries can carry on for months and months, and never get old. My boy Stone Cold is returning to the ring after bein out for 4 months with a neck injury, that almost cost him his career. So it's even gonna get better. So on those nights when those guys are beatin themselves sinceless with chairs, and gettin thrown through tables, just keep on flippin through the channels. It's a funny thing, off camera, these guys are really great people.

I'm with you, as a matter of fact, I could smell what you were cooking even before I logged in!
I think its great entertainment, but I'll also tell you that I tend to keep both of my kids (5yrs and 9 mos.) from watching it whenever possible.
The wrestling on TNN is a bit Extreme, as the name says. I have always thought that the responsibility is on the parents to make the educated decision on what their children should watch.
To those that don't like it, just use the remote.
I for one, can't see the point in televising Golf, or even tennis, but I don't complain, I just watch something else.

Hey guys, it's called "ENTERTAINMENT"
Young kids should not be watching it anyways.
The WWF is on for 2 hrs on monday night. If it was my kid, he would be doing homework at that time. So all these people getting mad about their kids watching the violence in wrestling; well the answer is simple: don't let them watch it. Come on, how hard is to know when your kid is watching something they are not suppose to be watching. They live in the same house as you for crying out loud. It's not the kids to blame here, it's the parents. Plain and simple, if your the parent, LAY THE SMACK DOWN and tell them NO.
As far as it being fake, hmmmm that's also easy to answer. How many of ya'll have wives that have to watch the soap operas 24/7. Well wrestling is the soap opera for men, and women who get involved. It's the fakest crap I have ever seen, but I like to watch it..
