Thumper's 1st Handgun
I sent my slide to Trijicon for the green dots. Really like them. Not into the idea of having a light on my gun and the Surefire switches I've tested are stiff as anything and will pull your aim. I'm suprised the Glock and XD both felt good. Glocks are fine weapons but feel like a brick in my hand where the XD felt like it was made for my hand. I think a lot of that is per individual plus the trigger feel.
I really like the trigger pull on the XD over the Glock that's for sure.
I'm not sure if this is the same or different as Texas. However, I'll be able to have it in my vehicle as long as it's out of reach and unloaded.

I'd suggest putting around 500 rounds thru it before considering any work or sights to the pistol. The price quoted from Springfield is not a deal and you may find that after 500 rounds the trigger gets better than their "combat" trigger....which isn't good anyway. A custom trigger job around here is only $50.00, is far better than the Springer "combat" trigger, and you may not need it. Spend the money that's burning a hole in yer pocket on ammo. You might also find that you will like the sights already on the pistol. I have standard and night sights. I'm not a fan of night sights and they require you getting accustomed to them. That may not be too spiffy if you own more than one pistol. I like my sight pictures to look relatively the same. You don't need to have to think about which pistol you have and what the right sight picture is in a confrontation. YMMV.
Why do people insist on putting a laser/ light/ TARGET on their weapons? I've cleared buildings before (for real), and the last thing you want is a light on the weapon... in direct line of sight (bullet path) to your head. Get a hand held Surefire (or equivalent), and hold it out to your side at arms length with your non-firing hand. And for christsakes, if you have a laser, not only do the bad guys know where to shoot, they also know where you're aiming (ie, all over the room, not necessarily at them).
Or even better, only use the weapon when they come to you, or across your line of sight at your hole up position... clearing a building or house by yourself is really stupid.

A-freakin-MEN!! I guess all the movies and tv shows that you see has lead to all this crap being put on a gun. I for one do not want to give away my position in a gunfight. I have a set of trijicon ghost ring sites on mine and unless someone twists my arm I'll never shoot anything else. They are so fast to acquire a target and easy to get used to. I let a buddy of mine shoot my XD and he shot a 98% on our qualifying range the first time he picked up my gun. He now has a set on order.
I guess it's personal preference. I've got a buddy who has been a DEA agent for 20 years who swears by them and recommending me getting one. Of course, I'm going to research it before buying it. I was only asking opinions. Geesh, you would of thought I pissed on your shoe.
IMHO if you really want a laser, you can't beat LASERMAX. I had one for my 1911 and absolutely loved it. It was flawless. I've since sold the 1911 and plan on putting one on my new Sig P226. I have used Insight before but for some reason the Lasermax seemed to work smoothly. It's kind of hard to describe online haha. Laser's aren't everyone's cup of tea as some have pointed out, but come on were not performing CQB with Delta Force. It looks cool and is practical for a sure shot in home protection and on the range.
As far as safes go, I have this one http://www.gunsafes.com/Patriot-6-12-Gun-Safe.html
And as some others have said, I wouldn't make a move for the combat trigger until you've fired a couple hundred rounds through your current trigger. Well Congrats and welcome to a new obsession

Nope, just checked my shoes are dry.
And you're right it is personal preference, I prefer not to give an opponent an advantage in a gunfight. On another note. The WAY you train to shoot will ultimately affect your ability. Those who stand on a line all day and shoot a weaver stance at a paper target will be outgunned every time against someone who trains on a combat course and uses a lot of shoot and move tactics. I suggest no matter what setup you go with you train to shoot in real world scenarios, moving to cover, retreating, reloading, clearing jams etc. etc. Case in point, there was a detective that was killed in florida because he got into a gunfight and in the middle he bent down to police his brass, JUST like he was trained to do at the range. It got the top of his head blown off. Be safe.
Here we go again. This is going to be the most heavily modded out XD in the world. Just givin' you crap thump. I enjoy following the progress of your projects.

I hear ya bout the EoTech! I have the 551 on my AR/M4gery and it is sweeeeet! It's so much easier shooting with both eyes open. ( I'll be sure to get a pic up once I find my camera)
And Thump, I've heard similar about the trigger break in by dry firing. Personally I don't recommend it often because some wear and tear problems can occur. But if you decide to ABSOLUTELY make sure you have "snap caps" in. Or at least an empty shell casing. If you don't you can really damage the firing pin. It's up to you, either way you'll love the new gun

Gotcha. I need to look for snap caps, the place was out of them for 9mm where I bought my gun. Can anyone give me a link to the EoTech that'd work with my gun? I was looking at them back when I was looking at AR15s.
I bought my xd 40 service a year ago, I had it for about 4 months before I sent it to Springfield and got the trigger work done to it. I had already put the trijicon sights on, but if you haven't then they have a package where they will do the concealed carry trigger work and put on the trijicon sights for 220$ I believe. The sights are 100 bucks if you go buy them, and they are absolutely awesome, the trigger work is the combat action job and over travel adjustment added and cost 215$ if you just have it done alone. So basically you get the sights for 5$ if you are already going to do both its a great deal. I think it brings it to 3lbs of pull, the work was top notch and it took a week and a half and I had my pistol back. The really nice thing about getting it done there is it carries the lifetime warranty like the rest of the pistol.
Here is the site with the worksheet on it http://www.springfield-armory.com/custom.php
BTW shooting before and after was night and day difference, I was shooting low and left before the work. Now I am dead on and my accuracy has greatly improved. The sights make a big difference also, because they are more visible even in daylight and they will glow forever without having to charge them with light.
