Test drove a Mustang yesterday
As of a few months ago a buddy of mine who has a Mustang and frequents stang forums said that the fastest 1/4 times yet from the current stangs are all on turbo'd V6 stangs....on stock internals at that.
Mock a V6 all you want (hey, I do too), but the 4.0 SOHc is no slouch and can be insanely fast with a simple bolt-on turbo kit that will walk all over GTs.

I'll probably get flamed for this but if I were going to get a sporty car right now I would probably get a civic si. My sister has a 2007 civic SI coupe. It has 197hp, gets 30mpg, has a 6 speed transmission, and goes for $20k. I love borrowing her car when I am in Florida. Its quick and its a fun car to drive that gets great MPG. And now they make a 4 door civic si that only weighs 60 more pounds than the coupe. The only problem is the small seats that my back doesnt fit into very well. But I am not your normal sized guy.

(Nice to see you made the trip back.)
The 4.0L SOHC had some problems when it was first released in Exploders and Mountaineers, but over time it's been gradually tweaked into a solid engine.
And yeah, I think you have brain damage if you think some ratty *** 4.2 in an F150 runs harder than a 4.0L SOHC in a Mustang.

I've driven V6 Mustangs on several occasions as rental cars and they move out alright, but certainly nothing like the GT. You can definitely burn some rubber with them though -- fun to do in a rental car that you know you'll never see again......
However, not to sound like a Cretin or anything, but I think it's totally gay for a guy to own a V6 'Stang. Chicks -- no problem. Guys -- gay......

Well we don't have to worry about raptor adjusting to any new surroundings if he got one.
I knew I'd gat flamed for this thread.
I'm not saying my truck is faster, I'm saying my truck has a touchier response. At a pressure which would spin up my truck pretty fast, the Mustang's DBW system just accelerated REALLY slow. Granted I only drove ~5 miles, I couldn't really get to drive it like most of you have. I'm just wondering why the impressive 4.0L has bad throttle response. Maybe because of fuel concerns, but my moms 4-banger Solara is the same way. No throttle response, but full throttle will spin the front tires and it can do ~115 easy. Is that something that can be changed with a tuner on that sort of car? I just thought it would accelerate a lot quicker since it weighs half as much.
Also sat in a different one today. Also a V6 (why are there used V6's all over the place and all the GT's on the road
) and this time in park I brought it up to ~4,000 and again, it needed a lot of push on the throttle just to spin it up.
Anyone know why Ford went with plastic intake manifolds?

This is coming from someone who drives a 4 banger?
Raptor, the reason that Mustang felt sluggish is the automatic transmission. You are used to the feel of a manual. I was a Ford salesman back when the Mustang II was introduced. The 4 banger (2.3) with a stick *FELT* a lot more responsive than the V-6 (2.8) with the automatic, but head to head the V-6 destroyed the 4. How do I know? Another salesman and I were screwing around on our lunch hours.

No self-respecting man would buy a V6 mustang. Hell, my girl wouldn't even test drive a V6! (I did know a guy who bought a '98 V6 convertible mustang when we graduated high school, we all laughed at him behind his back.

I’m a proud owner of a 08 GT that I finally broke in, it has a lot of power. I’ve never driven V6’ers but they have good reviews. There rated at 210HP, lets remember that the Fox body V8’s were I think 225. Not to far off and they say the handling of the new V6 is way better than the handling of the old V8’s. The after market has been responsive to the V6 as well. Lots of parts out there, even Shelby has that really cool looking C6.
I'm a fan of the Mustang, but there are some things I don't like about them, including GT models.
My brother's 07' GT is sweet, but the interior feels cheap, the shifter feels fragile, the grip is good but the handling isn't.
Maybe instead of spending $20K for a new V6 Mustang and lose thousands on depreciation over the next 3-4 years. Consider a used BMW 3-series. Heavy depreciation has already happened, you can pick up a 3-4 year old and any will outperform a V6 Mustang and out-handle any Mustang.
