I didn't see a response to your question. I believe it costs less, but in addition does not heat up as easy. If you took 2 intake manifolds, the exact same shape and size, but one was plastic, and one was metal, the plastic one should show better numbers.

The heat, IIRC, was causing cracking in the metal manifolds at the front (water passage?).
