Test drove a Mustang yesterday

2007 4.0L V6 in white. didnt like the plastic intake manifold, my 4.2L has alum manifold. it was an automatic and the shifter felt like it was going to snap apart in my hands. I loved the electronic audio alerts, (directionals, door ajar, etc) and the digital set up. I LOVED the gauges, couldnt figure out how to change the color tho. The guy let me drive it a few miles.

Now I may be hysterical saying this, but my truck has more get up and go than that thing does. I pressed it and nothing happened. i press more, it barely moves, and more then it moves at a normal rate. i was first in line at a green light and mildly "got on it" and it feels like a grandma car. spun up through 1st, 2nd and 3rd without going over 1900 rpm. I'm sure had i floored it, the little 4.0L would've woke up, but come on, i think that electronic "drive by wire" crap is hampering the true potential of these engines. overall, I liked it. Guy said he'd give me 3K for my truck and sell it (used, 18K miles, 17K left on factory warranty) for $16,009 (wtf?). just thought i'd share. was fun tho, never drove a new mustang. I saw a blue one in town (GT) and I'm going to see if i cant see how she feels.

Thumper, did you drive the V6? and did your have a little "slack" in the throttle?

Are you kidding me? The v-6 Mustang was Thumpers dream car, only thing is they sold the last one right before he showed up so he got stuck with the GT. I told him to wait for the next load on 4.0's but he couldnt wait and settled for a GT. He still kicks himself to this day

I always say if your going to get a sports car you might as well get the badass version or nothing at all.

I'll probably get flamed for this but if I were going to get a sporty car right now I would probably get a civic si. My sister has a 2007 civic SI coupe. It has 197hp, gets 30mpg, has a 6 speed transmission, and goes for $20k. I love borrowing her car when I am in Florida. Its quick and its a fun car to drive that gets great MPG. And now they make a 4 door civic si that only weighs 60 more pounds than the coupe. The only problem is the small seats that my back doesnt fit into very well. But I am not your normal sized guy.

The 4.0L SOHC in the Mustang or even the Ranger would destroy your 4.2L...

How in the world do you make a claim that it's slower than your truck when you say you only revved it up to ~2,000 RPMs. Drive by wire is a great design, wake up this isn't the 60s. Honestly, if they sounded decent, I'd probably get one just to slap some GTs around.

No kidding, this kid is on drugs. The 4.0 in the Mustang also has forged internals from the factory. No other V6 Mustang that Ford produces can touch this motor. It's a great motor with good power, good torque, good gas mileage, great design, forged internals, loves forced induction, etc. It's a beast.

PS: My girl still has her car and it's been a great car and a great motor. Nothing has ever gone, knock on wood. Mrs. VMP Tuning has a 05+ Mustang 4.0L with a Vortech on it pumping out ~400 rwhp.

I rented a 2007 V6 Mustang for a week in April while on vacation... the car has some power... or at least it did for those 800 miles I put on it.

Yea i've raced one of my buddy's 05 V6 Mustang with my dad's s/c 2wd 4.2 5speed F150 and from a dead stop till I reached 70 mph the mustang just blew the F150's doors off. It was just for fun but i'm impressed with the power that 4.0 put's out. I think that what raptor meant though was just more of the low end torque side of the power just easing up too speed it feels like his truck has to work less to get started from a dead stop! I maybe wrong though but that was the impression I got!

To be fair to Mustangs, it was a rental, and it was most likely the bottom of the barrel model.
