Never realized how much nicer an 8' bed is...my last truck with an 8' bed was my '84 F-150. 176" wheelbase makes you plan your turns in advance and avoid tight parking spots but other then that its actually fun to drive. My camper is close to 40' long but some of that rides in the truck bed. It should be about a foot and a quarter longer then hooked up to son in laws F-250 with the 6-3/4' bed.

 

 

Spent a couple hours driving the non daily drivers today. Takes time to drive em and move everything around to get them out. Ended up putting 25 miles on the 01 F150, 20 Miles on the M Class and Ran the cavalier a few miles. Its even been sitting for a while.

This green pollen is for the birds. Poor Eb is 85 percent green with some brown sparkles

Took the edge on its first road trip last weekend and really impressed with the fuel mileage. Running 80mph netted 26mpg going and 25.5 coming back. Roughly 500 miles.

 

How much room was was between the camper and cab on your SIL truck? I remember going to the campground where my dad ran fishing charters and a lot of the short bed trucks that towed fifth wheels had smashed cabs from trying to back their campers into their spot I'd imagine that's not an issue with the 8' bed.

The only 8' bed I've had was on my Silverado and I do kind of miss it. It's nice to load almost anything in the bed and be able to shut the gate. Now if I take the quad anywhere or something that doesn't fit in the bed I tow the trailer so my tailgate doesn't get beat up from road debris.

 

My Cavalier has been sitting for over a month as well -- I actually miss driving it.....

Been running the Shiite out of the Escape lately -- needed the extra room for passengers and testing samples lately so I've been driving the "fancy" car.....

 

Son in law made a tight right turn going uphill and bumped the rear cab. We put on a Reese Sidewinder pin box and that eliminated the problem. Taking the Sidewinder off and going back with the OEM pin box with the new truck. A long bed is a lot better for towing a large fifth wheel trailer.

Very nice -- I have always loved that era of the Monte -- especially the SS's with that aero-nose.....

The strange thing is, when I purchased my first new car (summer of 1989) I don't recall a Monte Carlo even being one of the cars I considered -- I can't remember if it was out of my price range, if I didn't like the impracticality of a two-door, or something else.....???

 

Saw this picture and thought it looked pretty good...need some mud flaps on mine and get my trailer cleaned up and hope to look as good as this rig!

 

Paw -- that set-up looks almost identical to yours.

Are you going to be able to park the new truck inside or will it be relegated to sit outside? I can't imagine too many garages would be big enough to handle that thing!

Two boxes of fun showed up yesterday. Now I wait for Manifolds.

 

Spent a couple of hours underneath the old Ranger this afternoon -- my chassis detail is about 75% complete. Thought I might have to get it up on a lift to detail the inner bed sides, but found I was able to reach all the way up to the stake pockets laying on my back on a creeper. Can't say this is one of those projects I will miss when it's finished -- it's pretty tedious work and you can never get it quite the way you want it.....
