Let's start over......
Used to wash the old 5.4 but I put duct tape across the top of the could to keep water out of the holes. The 5.0 s are sealed off very well. I just let the engine cool done the spray with soap and then rinse. I like it to be clean when I go in for oil changed. I wash the engine every 2 or 3 months. Shen it starts to get dusty
Mine got dirty pretty quick when it was bought, living on a cliche driveway didn't help but I've not noticed it being much dirtier since we moved.
Most are running Yamaha's down here now...200 hp Yamaha 2 stroke direct injected on the 22' Triton and two 225 hp Yamaha 4 strokes on the 28' Kevlacat. One other 17' boat has a 90 hp Yamaha on it. Very few problems with any of them.
I didn't realize that they had stopped making Johnson's.....???
Although, I guess it was kind of ridiculous that the Evinrude's and Johnson's were essentially identical except for the paint scheme.....
One of my brother-in-law's back in Minnesota has a favorite saying: "What do you mean we're not going to have trouble on the water today -- it says 'Mercury' right there on the side of the motor!"

Meant to put this up when I got back from WV but forgot. Looking back a few pages I seen Coys dash pics and it reminded me .
Ended up putting over 700 miles not the truck last weekend I was really impressed with how well it handled the hills in WV. Towing my little trailer with the quad and the cruise set on 70 it would kick down to 5th gear, go to 2000 rpms and stay there until I topped the hill.
I drove my Chevy down last year EMPTY, no quad no trailer, with the cruise set on 70 and it would kick down to 2nd gear and scream up the same hills around 3700 rpms.
I made it down on half a tank of gas. There was a guy in a 2015 1500 Silverado Z71 that filled up before we left and had to fill up again between 250-300 miles in to the trip.
