Well I finally got my refund and I'm sending both of the keys back. I already got both of them cut, so he'll probably be a little mad, but on the other hand I was mad when I got 2 used keys, so it all evens out.
I was going to keep them, but there's no point since they don't even work.

so has anyone actually got the key cut and programmed to work for an 04 f150? if so who did you take it to to get it cut and programmed? im still on the fence if i should go ahead and purchase the key. not really wanting to waste 50 bucks if the key doesnt work for f150s.

There have been numerous people who have had their keys cut and programmed to work with their trucks. I am not sure of the years, but I believe it works on all 04+. However it did NOT work with mine. I do not know if it was because the Ford dealer cut the keys wrong, or if I was sent the wrong keys.
