You can't even come close to hearing the scream.

Word to the wise, don't let anybody ever hand you a unidirectional microphone
unless you're singing onstage at some MTV awards.
It's amazing what can be done with technology these days. I almost fell for it, too.

Both of those are real.
I recall seeing the speech/explanation only once on tv recorded from another source right after it happened.

One of Deans own people handed him that type microphone, it wasn't a right wing conspiracy.
To his credit, he never placed blame or named a name.

The poor kid would have become the 'Bill Buckner' of political campaigning.

The unidirectional mic picks up from one point, the speakers mouth.
Singers on stage usually go for this type.
( When Mick jagger wants to pick up audience feedback, he will point the microphone out at the crowd like a gun, he knows how it works)

The omni-directional mic senses from all directions.
Comics prefer this, they actually like shouts and screams from adoring female fans and even retorts from hecklers, they want it live instantly when it happens, the microphone that Dean used wouldn't work for them.

You know I'm just pulling your chain right? I know that was blown all out of proportion. I didn't like him as a candidate for his stance on the issues, not because some some rightwing talkshow guy told me not to.

I did make the crazy crow "kaw" sound a couple of times though. It was fun!
