Oh yeah, I'm all about this one too. I was Pentecostal most of my life and was the leader of the Outreach team. We'd go to breakfast and discuss the best ways to "reach" people. I feel so bad for all the doors I knocked on.

I see what you're saying here but I don't think you will get penalized if you never actually find the one truth. I think just learning all you can about the different ways people praise God/Allah/Jesus/Budah is going to be enough to earn you points I think you're doing what's right. I personally feel those locked into ONE way and not learning about the others are actually brainwashed. Not to be negative towards ANY person or religion, I just think it's important to be open about other faiths.

You know, I have this one JW lady that comes to see me about once a month. I really enjoy listening to her and what she has to say. SHE is a rarity as she doesn't force it on me... just shows me what's new and what they're talking about this month in the Watchtower.

Oh, absolutely not. I'm not too convinced there is ONE way to find. I just can't go through life not knowing what/if I'm missing.

I'd have to say, I agree with Dave, too.

I call myself a Christian. I've been to Baptist & Methodist churches, as well as Church of Christ. I'm not a religious expert and certainly couldn't quote much (if any) scripture. I do believe in God & Jesus Christ, and that there is a heaven. I don't think that there's any one specific way to get there, however.

I really just try to live my life the best way I can. I guess that could mean different things to different people, but to simplify it - I just try to treat everyone the way I would want to be treated. I try to do what I know in my heart is the "right" thing to do and live in a way that if I stand before my maker on judgement day, I won't be ashamed of what I've done or the way I lived (obviously no one's perfect and we all make mistakes, but generally speaking).

I have been baptised, "saved", accepted Jesus Christ as my lord and savior. I don't necessarily think that this gets me a "free ride" into heaven, though. Nor do I think that going to church every Sunday (or Saturday, etc.) is an automatic ticket in, either.

I think it's more about the type of person you are, the type of soul you have, how you treat your fellow man, that kind of thing.

I could be totally off-base, who knows....but that's just my view on it.

Thanks for the one liner Norm, but your gonna need more than an old saying to jump in. Read up on a logical fallacy called "circular reasoning" and maybe even the allegory of the cave. If you're brave enough, try out the council of Nicea. Then come on back with more than a quip.

The line speaks for itself. No need for further research.

Hitler spoke for himself too, but we don't run around quoting him as if we are to live by it.

That is some "circular reasoning".

I see what you are saying, I have even been quoted as speaking just as you wrote. The problem is that it is not scripture.

2Corinthians 10 (My interpretation) not a direct quote, please lookup for yourself.
"Paul does not want to be bold with the followers of Christ, he intends to be bold about Christ with those want to make false claims and accusations of Christ. One who Paul says to be bold with. He says in 10:3-5, although we walk in flesh, we do not war according to flesh. He tells me that my weapons of warfare are not carnal, but mighty in God for tearing down those that spew falsehoods. To defeat those arguments and all that exalt themselves, or views that are against the knowledge of God. Destroy the lies that others claim of Christ, and lead them to Him."

Please note that what I am about to say to you next, IS NOT directed at you. It was who I was, and how I conducted myself in manners of Christ.

I dont know why I was ashamed of the word. (Please see 2 Timothy 2:15) I am sure that it was my pride and arrogance that had me rambling philosophical garbage. I believed that I was so smart! The strangest part, was that for so long, I had been fighting for Christ without the Holy Spirit, His Sword.

Norm, I did not get was Hitched was doing for days...all he wanted me to do was look at scripture. He gave me the verses that I mentioned in the above post. When I read them, it hit me HARD. I pray that you just take your bible out, and take a peek.

You might want to look at that quote a little. No one here said they intended to do good. they may have said try, but that is actually an action, whereas intend is only to mentally prepare for action. So, if someone on here had said, "I like to think about doing good" you might have grounds to post the saying. Even then, we don't generalize. If you want to direct a 12th century quote at someone, go ahead and let them know. It's the internet, they cna't do much to you anyway.
