I was the one complaining of the "MIP." I was 20 days away from 21, I live in a college town NEAR the college. EVERYONE drinks, the police know it. Why did they decide to cite me? Beats the hell out of me? Because they aren't busy enough catch the dog fighters, meth dealers, and illegal immigrants I guess?
The police allocated their resources in ridiculous manners at times (most of the time it SEEMS). This is not to say that I disrespect them, I just lose respect when I have a friend die from a ridiculously drunk OLD man driving while I (who am 20 and AT HOME) get busted for drinking with friend on a Saturday night.
I feel that if police are going to be hard asses on details such as these I ought to call them in for EVERY God derned infraction I see an on or off duty officer commit. Also, an officer with ANY sort of prior convictions ought not be allowed on the force (when I got my Minor In Possession one officer said that he knew a guy on the force with a few MIPs, same as I just got). Is it F'D up beyond belief for cops to commit ANY crime and hold us to the most strict standards? Yes it is.
They shouldn't be hired if thet have so much as a traffic violation because that PROVES that they are bad citizens and do not follow the law.

I already said what i did was wrong and that i deserved, so I am taking responsibility for my actions.I could be like a lot of other people and try and get my parents to fix it but I am the one who is paying it and admitted I was wrong.

Cops in my city arent allowed to join and are removed if they ever get anything other than a Class C misdemeanor (ie: traffic stop, code compliance, etc-- nothing like MIP)
20 days away...They are trying to use you as an example for the rest of the town. The idea is that you tell your friends how close you are to being 21, then get a ticket. The law reads the way it does, and they hope that your horror story will keep some people from doing it. Dont forget, though-- Once they have seen it happen, if they tun a blind eye, they are risking everything.
As for the use of resources...I know it seems stupid, but you catch the ones you can. If you stroll up on a code compliance issue, solve it, dont stand by waiting for the methhead. I will say this-- I have had my troubles with methheads in the Ambulance, and they are not fun to deal with. And they are well known for breaking restraints, so theres a good reason why cops let the Medics take em. We get em when they are about to die, and their hearts are going crazy. When they get them-- cops get hurt. Yes, we get hurt (myself included), but it usually isnt as bad as when the Officers get it.
A lot of what they do is prevention. Thats why they sit on the freeway pointing radar guns. They know you can see them in the median, but an ounce of prevention is better than ANY amount of crimefighting. More wrecks are caused by drivers panicking when they see the flashers than you know...
I will end with this. Unless they are doing something unethical, illegal, or immoral, dont bother. They have a reason, the right, and the duty to do what they do. I am done with this thread.

If they werent, you were under 21 and that my friend is Illegal meaning he can and probably will cite you for it. Also it is not the duty of a police officer to catch " illegal immigrants" Just FYI
Im not going to sit around and preach though, cause i was younger too and i drank and did silly crap. I fortunantly was never caught doing anything, and consider myself lucky that i never hurt or got hurt.
One day youll grow older and realize some of the stupid crap that has happend in your life and i doubt hating cops for that one time they gave you a MIP will be one of them.

BTW--When have you all seen cops get off with crimes??? All the ones within about 30 miles of my house that commit any crime other than speeding (for which a professional courtesy is extended-- but firefighters, Medics, and several other groups get the same courtesy to an extent-- you have to be reasonable) are promptly put on Administrative leave, fired, forced to resign, or put in a desk.
Ok-- now I am really done with this thread.

I could go on and on and on but I'm going to let my drivel fade off into oblivion.

yeah. Here's my loud music and illegal tint experience. I had a loud system back when I was younger (which wasn't long ago) and I knew if I played it loud in town I'd get some unwanted attention. I almost got myself carjacked once from it, not a fun experience considering I had to flee for my life in a 91 ford probe gt turbo with one tire on the left and a rim and two sidewalls on the right front, on a front drive car. I somehow outran them and saved my life. There's a longer story involved here, but what it boils down to is the loud music almost got me killed. In your case it was the cops, just learn from your situation and remember this motto I learned: Keep it Down in Town.
As for the tint, I had a 10" strip, illegal as hell on my probe gt. I didn't care. I was lucky, but I got pulled over for other things and they never said anything. I was lucky. Well, I ended up having a baseball bust my windshield. Never put the stripe back on. Never had any more issues. Just keep the stripe legal, no problems.
Bethankful you arenotin my part of the world. Several communities here have noise ordinances and the LEA have decibel meters in their cars. The firsttime you get a ticket; the second time, the car may be impunded OR they remove the stereo (not too gently, either) from said vehicle. Oh, you also have to pay to get the stereo back.
BTW---I do not really enjoy people ruining my nice, quiet evening by driving by with a stereo so loud that it beats a 737 on a decible meter. (The best one I saw was when a student of mine was leaving school, turned his music up to the "painful level", and blew out his rear window...
It may seem piddly poop to you, but they are, as others have said, enforcing the law. They don't write the laws, but they are obligated to enforce them.

I just finished reading the whole thread.
IMO, you break the law you pay for it. You KNEW the tint was illegal, and you did the right thing by complying with the officer's request to roll down your window. People say "oh yeah I would have refused" but I'd almost BET 99% of people will, when asked, comply with a request from a cop. You don't, and they make your life hell. Is it legal for them to do so? No, but cops get away with whatever they want. Once you accept that and move on, life is MUCh easier.
As for the Minor in Posession, you know its illegal to drink when you're under 21, yet you CHOOSE to take the risk and do so. It has nothing to do with cops not catching illegals and dog fighters, it has to do with you made a conscious choice to break the law, and you got caught. Your punishment is a direct result of your choice. You should be lucky you got only a ticket and not hauled off to jail, as an LEO has every right to do. Your problems would be 10 fold, had that happened.
IMO, you gotta pay to play. Simple as that folks.

If you do the crime , you need to do the time. If your tints are illegal you got busted end of story. Maybe its different in New Zealand but the laws the law, if you break it you know the consequences. Remember the Police you hate are the same ones that have to attend the accidents and scrape bodies of the road from s**T heads who think they are above the law. Just get hard
