When you think about comics, they may "talk about" white people, but those are observations, not racial slurs. They'll say something like Steve Harvey did, when he in talking about the Titanic, said you've never heard of 3,000 black people dying at the same time. He said white people just stood there, some still playing music while the ship sank...

But, if that had been 3,000 black people, we'd have been breaking those piano's, floating on the wood, making a sail out of the napkins, etc... Dance comparisons, and stuff like that... Stuff that is mild..

But, I guarantee you, if Steve Harvey, who is a major black radio personality, was on the air, looking at the Yale women's basket ball team, and said- "Those are some rough looking ***** on that team. I mean, those are some stringy-haired, ***** on that team". I guarantee you, Steve would be under similiar fire, as Imus. If not fired already.

Contrary to popular belief, blacks don't get a free pass. And, if they do- I want to know what the hell happened to mine...

At first, I agreed with 306stang, but I do see your point in this post. On the contrary, I don't think it would be broadcasted and have AS MUCH of an effect as said Imus' remarks did. I think it would have caused a little bit of an uproar, but not to the magnitude that this has.

Imus is an idiot with a big mouth and a small mind. There are blacks (rappers come to mind) than use that same phrase regularly and repeatedly. What we are talking about is a politically correct double standard.

If the black community would stop demeaning itself (where did Imus get the phrase from, it not something you hear in other areas), there would be no need for any of this fuss.

I do like the way that the liberals are abandoning him... now he's being compared to Rush Limbaugh... like that makes any sense at all.

By the way, Imus audience is around 300,000. Now 300,000,000 Americans know what he said. Probably would have been better to be dealt with inside his audience.

Imus is worthless. If he had value, he'd have a real audience like other national talk show hosts. I don't even think the statement makes him racist, just really, really stupid - he thought that as a white man he could use a black phrase. And he thought it was being funny...

Sarcasm and insults are the humor of those not smart enough to know what humor is. The outrage is that the guy could be in front of a mike to begin with.

The double standard is the big issue. A black person such as Ludacris can say hoe a million times. Then a white person says it and is racist. How come a black person hits a old white woman it is a crime. Then when a white person, hits a old black woman it is a hate crime.

There is a huge double standard that exists. Frankly, if the media hadn't propped up Imus for years, he would be long gone.

I argued the point with a female cop that works with the chief in Milwaukee. She was so proud of hate crime "adders"... wouldn't hear anything about how discriminatory they are, or that they decrease the value of one person while falsely increasing the value of someone else.

Again, as long as we keep double standards, these things will happen. If a word is "bad" and "hurtful", then it should be bad for EVERYONE. The so called "N" word is a prime example. When I was young it was almost gone. Then the blacks started using it referring to each other - but I can't use it because? Frankly I think it's a word that should go away. It goes right back to lose the double standard and the bad words go away.

The double standard that exisits is pathetic. The guy said one thing and everyone wants his head. Yet, whenever a non-white makes racist comments towards whites no one seems to care.
We had a dumbass who attacked a police officer with a screwdriver and the cop shot and killed him ( ) but because he was a minority it was automatically racism. Even after it was made public that the officer was of the same minority group it was decided they would say it was racism in the PD. Associations were demanding that the officer be fired and compensation paid to the family. The shooting was cleared both internally and externally. Because this group makes up over 50% of the prison population we are all racists, and there is even a statute that says that people of this group are to be given lighter sentences just because of their race. Isnt that racism too

You have any idea how many times Ive seen this? If it was to say whites, or males there would be a lineup of people waiting to sue.

 

Regardless, even in a joking manner---you do not call somebody's daughter a "Ho." While you may need to consider the source, I would still be PO'd if he called my daughter a "Ho" on national radio---even in a joking manner. There are certain things that one doesn't joke about---and that crossed the line.
